Room in a bed and breakfast
Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
The Book House is light and spacious, an energy-efficient Passive House set on a farm just outside the village of Crawfordsburn, 2.5 miles from Bangor city centre and a 20-minute drive to Belfast City Airport. Your large ensuite upstairs guest room looks out on the surrounding fields.
The hosts offer a continental breakfast each morning.
By coming to The Book House, you'll be contributing to a local charity, North Down Christians Against Poverty (CAP). 25% of our Airbnb payouts go to CAP.
The space
Enjoy browsing through our wall of books in the living room, or if the sun is shining, relax on our patio or in the garden summerhouse. At the front of the house, for guests with children, there's also a sandpit/long-jump pit.*
Crawfordsburn village is a few minutes' drive or about a 10-minute walk either through the park or using our private path across the fields. The village has a petrol station with a well-stocked Spar shop and off-licence, and the famous Old Inn, a beautiful hotel with very good restaurant. Between these 2 businesses, you'll find stone steps which take you down through the glen to Crawfordsburn Country Park and the extensive North Down Coastal Path.
* NB If travelling with a baby and you need a separate room to settle the child, contact Helen about this in advance for details.
Guest access
We want to be available to our guests when they want us to be, but otherwise our aim is to give them the freedom of the house and garden to use for themselves. A small fridge-freezer is available for guest use only, in addition to our own.
During your stay
If you need to contact us during your stay, please use the Airbnb messaging or phone/text Helen.
Other things to note
Our guest room is upstairs, so is unfortunately not accessible for wheelchair users. Parents staying with young children should note that the guest room has double doors that open into the room. On the outside, immediately in front of the opening, there is a glass safety screen, about 4 feet high. Caution should be taken to ensure that the doors are only opened when adults are present in the room, and are otherwise kept locked.

Lives in Dublin, Ireland
I am an Anglican clergyman who teaches in a theological college affiliated to Trinity College Dublin. My wife Helen and I have three adult children. I really enjoy travel, music, film, hunting down second hand book stores and the gym. Well, perhaps love is slightly exaggerating things when it comes to the gym but I do believe in exercise.
