Room in a home

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
Dating back to 1795, Barnacle Cottage is a lovingly restored Grade II listed building. Set back from the road, it’s a little gem that’s easy to miss & treat to find. Quirky, cosy & quaint, it sits at the heart of Ryde's Conservation Area, just a stone's throw from local shops & 300yds from the Pier, Hovercraft & Bus Station. You'll love your Double Bedroom, Study and Loo - all private, and use of the pretty galley kitchen & secluded garden. The little staircase means accessibility is restricted.

The space
Your private rooms are up the little staircase, tucked away all on their own. You'll have your own double bedroom overlooking the secluded garden with your own adjoining study/sitting room with TV. Your private under stairs loo is just outside the door and further down the landing is the shared shower room. Downstairs the Galley kitchen is at your disposal with a full range cooker, fridge freezer and washing machine but sorry, no dishwasher! A little table is perfect for two to dine at, or you can eat Al Fresco in the garden. Free Parking (by arrangement) is a single space directly outside the garage doors.

Guest access
You'll have private use of your bedroom, study and loo with shared use of the shower room, kitchen & garden.

During your stay
You'll always be able to get hold of me via Airbnb messaging or by texting my mobile. I'm often, but not always around as I spend a lot of time out enjoying the Island or working in Portsmouth.

Other things to note
You'll be staying in Barnacle Cottage, a well loved and well worn two hundred year old home. Please take us as you find us - a living home more than a lush Hotel! Don't be too surprised to come across an empty tea cup, yesterday's newspaper or (hopefully) that missing sock! Please do make yourself very much at home with us and you'll find it's a perfect little base for Ryde's restaurants and beaches, and being so close to the bus and train stations; great for exploring the Island.

Neighbourhood highlights

Situated in the Ryde Conservation Area, Barnacle Cottage is halfway up George Street which rises from the sea front Esplanade. So you are just 300 yards from the Pier, Bus & Train Station, Hovercraft and Catamaran connections and being just two blocks away from Union Street's shops and restaurants means everything's close to hand. Set back from the street a little means that it's relatively quiet for a town dwelling but being close to bustling Union Street means you'll still hear some traffic, an occasional hovercraft, seagulls and a few late night revellers passing.

My work: Retired
Favourite song in secondary school: 3 Legs
I spend too much time: Playing Blues Harmonica with my R&B Band
What makes my home unique: 225yrs of quirkyness!
I’m happy to spend time with my guests or give them space
Easy going, independent and much travelled (shooting films the world over) I've slept in everything from cockroach motels to disused Bolivian urinals with hundreds of the finest & the worst hotel rooms in between. Now retired & hiding out on a small island, when I do venture out I like to find somewhere cosy, casual & clean to rest my head.
