The space
Roeka is a hand built cabin constructed entirely with sustainability in mind, and set in a wonderful backdrop of ancient woodland high up a private lane in the picturesque downland village of East Dean, West Sussex.
The cabin is completely off grid - contemporary in style with modern comforts. it is very well insulated and protected from the elements. It is powered by tiny gas cylinders for hot water and battery for electricity, and a sumptuous log-burner which throws out enormous instant heat and also has a top hot plate for boiling a kettle or toasting bread!
The interior is simply styled for the feeling of peace and tranquility and low maintenance. The walls and flooring are finished in natural wood for warmth and comfort. There are large landscape windows giving access to an amazing vista where guests will be treated to stunning sun rises and sunsets, along with occasional passing wildlife and unusual birds.
The kitchen is beautiful and simple: with an under counter fridge and gas hob for cooking, and the shower room has been purposefully designed with dark finishings and rain shower to create a warm and peaceful atmosphere.
Guests have much control over their usage of the facilities within the cabin, therefore being mindful and in order to enjoy your stay to the maximum, you can simply flick the switch to the electricity supply each time you come and go from the cabin.
Doing our bit for the environment, the cabin also has a wonderful compost loo which is easy and simple to use. Instructions in the cabin. Our toiletries and hand soaps have been sourced for their natural and non invasive ingredients and production, as are our tissue papers.
For sleeping, we have a hand-built double bed with hybrid mattress, and sumptuous cotton linen bedding for long lazy mornings. There is a pull out drawer underneath which guests are welcome to use for their belongings.
If you can’t bear to be parted from your furry friends, up to 2 pets are welcome for an extra charge of £40 per stay.

Guest access
Roeka is accessed via a track at the end of Newhouse Lane. Guests are invited to leave their vehicle on the hard standing at the parking area and then walk up hill 200 ms to the cabin which due to the black exterior is fairly well camouflaged in its surroundings. Have torches ready if you're arriving in darkness!
There is a key safe on the exterior wall at the rear end of the cabin: guests will receive the code once their booking is complete.
PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO OFF GRID LOCATION IT IS UNLIKELY YOU WILL HAVE SIGNAL so the Star & Garter pub in East Dean village will be the easiest accessible place should you require assistance or have any queries.
