Other things to note
We welcome guests with dogs. The flooring downstair is all solid oak so easy to clean if there are muddy paws around. We ask that you refrain from allowing dogs upstairs.

While there isn't a garden at the Chapel, there is a patio at the front of the property. We don't have a gate across the driveway so, although the road oustide is very quiet, it's not enclosed so it's not possible to leave dogs unattended.

There is parking for 2 cars.

Neighbourhood highlights

The picturesque village of Bradwell is in the middle of The Peak District National Park and lies just a few miles from Castleton in the beautiful Hope Valley. The village lies at the meeting of the Dark Peak (gritstone) and White Peak (limestone) regions, and limestone has been mined here since Roman times.

Most of the buildings are 19th century, though a few older remain, including the White Hart Inn (1676). The church of St Barnabas the Apostle is late Victorian, and there are some lovely cottages running here and there up The Hills. Just outside Bradwell, the high ridges of Bradwell Edge are popular with hang gliders and paragliders, and the views are superb.

Hope Valley is stunning, and the surrounding countryside has more fantastic walks than I can list here. I’m a keen trail runner and I spend a lot of time in the hills around Bradwell and I’m regularly finding new routes and views. I’ve included a few photos of the local area, all of them having been taken during walks or runs direct from the Chapel. Some of my favourite places to go within the immediate vicinity are;

Ladybower Reservoirs
Stannage Edge
MamTor to Loose hill ridge walk
Bamford Edge
Walk up Jacob’s Ladder to Kinder Scout
Drive (or even better, cycle) down Winnat’s Pass
Visit the historic ‘Plague Village’ of Eyam
Go swimming in Hathersage’s open air pool

There are many, many more great places to enjoy the countryside locally. As well as the glorious countryside there are lots of local attractions to visit locally. To list just a few of my favourites;

Chatsworth Estate - a must visit attraction while you’re in the area. The opulent Chatsworth House is an amazing spectacle set in beautiful grounds
Peveril Castle - One of England’s earliest Normal fortresses, above the picturesque village of Castleton
Speedwell Cavern - Take an incredible underground journey by boat through the underground cave system
David Mellor Visitor Centre - celebrating the designer of all things from bas stops and traffic lights to cutlery and glass wear
The Buxton Crescent Experience - telling the historic story of Buxton located in the beautiful Buxton Crescent

If you're looking for bike hire there are a couple of places I would recommend.

For those looking for something flat and scenic with some options for cafe stops you can't go far wrong with the Monsal Trail which is about 15 minutes drive away. It's an easy, flat and very scenic old railway line which includes a number of long tunnels that the kids will enjoy. The whole trail is about 11 miles end to end. They are a couple of bike hire options on the Trail;

Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire. I think I’d start from here - it’s the furthest from Bakewell so tends to be quieter and there’s a cafe at Millers Dale Station (quite easily reachable even with little legs).

Hassop Station Cycle Hire. It's about a mile from Bakewell on the Monsal Trail and has the benefit of having a big car park and cafe.

If you're looking for something more adventurous and fancy some proper off-road MTB action or would like gravel bikes to go a little further afield Alpkit in Hathersage rent out an assortment of great and very capable bikes. I recently rented a gravel bike from them for a couple of days to tour the trail on the Dark Peak and absolutely loved it.
