A traditional barn, set on the slopes of Whernside, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this truly is a secluded spot.

Located at the end of a narrow track, it is enveloped by woodland, fields and streams. The open plan, rustic style suits couples, small groups and some families, and is ideal as a base for outdoor activities.

A peaceful dog-friendly rural retreat with walks on your doorstep, exclusive use of the garden, charcoal BBQ, pizza oven, and a wood-fired hot tub to relax in.

The space
The barn is a unique place, and it’s all yours. The open plan features a kitchen, dining and lounge area downstairs.

Inside it’s all flagged and hard flooring, so muddy boots and dogs are welcome.

Upstairs on the mezzanine there’s a King-size bed, accessed by a Victorian iron spiral staircase. Opposite, in the old hayloft, is a separate cosy nook, filled with books, and two single z-beds, which can be used for seating or two additional beds as required.

The open-plan lounge includes a large Smart TV, hi-fi, comfy leather chesterfield sofa and armchair.

The kitchen area includes an AGA cooker, conventional electric cooker, generous work surfaces, dishwasher, fridge and microwave.

Also downstairs, the bathroom includes a shower/bath, heated towel rail, underfloor heating, and a washing machine. All linen and towels are provided, and are commercially laundered.

Despite its remote location, the barn has a gigabit unlimited internet connection, great for a wet day, or if you need to stay connected.

In winter, keep warm by the AGA and the huge log burner. In summer, open the barn doors, and sit outside on the cobbles at the front, or relax in the garden on the south facing patio by the gnarled old apple tree.

At any time of year, treat yourself to a relaxing deep soak in filtered stream water in our Japanese Ofuru wood-fired traditional larch hot tub, and try your hand at cooking a delicious sourdough pizza in our charcoal pizza oven.

The hot tub is free to use if you bring your own logs, otherwise we can supply logs at a cost of £10 per day. All logs and kindling for the barn are included at no cost, as well as complimentary charcoal for the pizza oven and BBQ.

Guest access
You have access to the whole barn, and the surrounding area. The barn is located on property which includes over ten acres of pasture, woodland, and open fell, bounded by two streams and a site of special scientific interest, and a beautiful river running across the bottom.

Public footpaths cross right by the barn, which is close to the Dales Way, and the Yorkshire Three Peaks route, so you’re ideally situated to explore the surroundings.

Other things to note
While Hingabarn is a unique property, some of the things that make it special may not suit everyone!

• Firstly, it is located half a mile up a narrow, twisting and uneven track, which is not suitable for large vehicles (larger cars and vans are not recommended).

• While there is no parking at the barn, you have a single parking space in the cobbled yard at the farm, a short (80 metre) walk across a sloping field. At some times of the year the field can be wet and muddy!

• The area around the barn is cobbled and uneven, and it is close to a permanently flowing stream. A river is not far away and can contain some deep water.

• The barn itself contains a narrow and steep spiral staircase, and other steep stairs, so it may not suit small children or anyone with limited mobility. Also, it’s open plan, with the main bedroom area on a mezzanine, with privacy curtain. The barn is best for couples or small groups of friends, and some families!

• Additionally, there are low heights to some entrances. Some ducking and dipping may be required; please do be careful of your head!

• We welcome one dog, and can sometimes accept two, but please check beforehand.

• Finally other animals i.e. a dog, free-range cat, chickens (and sometimes sheep and lambs) live around the barn, so if you have a dog it is essential that it is under control at all times, and on a lead if outside the enclosed garden.

Thank you!

Neighbourhood highlights

The barn is located in a small offshoot valley of beautiful Dentdale. The quaint cobbled village of Dent is minutes away by car, or a pleasant two mile walk by the river, and has two pubs, two cafes and a village shop.

Several public footpaths pass nearby, so you are ideally situated to explore. The barn is on the western slope of Whernside, and the summit is accessed directly by footpath from the property. We are located one mile off the popular Dales Way, and just off the main route of the Yorkshire Three Peaks walk.

The small market town of Sedbergh is a pleasant eight mile walk along the River Dee, or twenty minutes by car, and has pubs, cafes, a butcher and greengrocer. Its location at the foot of the Howgill Fells offers more opportunity for exploration.

We are located inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park, an Internationally recognised Dark Sky reserve, and we are also only just over an hour from the Lake District National Park, recently awarded World Heritage status.

We are a retired scientist and teacher, and we enjoy the peace and tranquility of living on our farm in the Yorkshire Dales. We spend time being as sustainable as possible, cutting our own firewood, maintaining our solar and hydroelectric power systems, and growing our own veg and raising chickens. We also love reading, music and travelling in our caravan!
