Do you need to switch off and want an escape holiday that provides the perfect balance between relaxation, exploration, great wine, and food tasting? Looking for a warm and cozy home base where to stay? Our place might be the right one for you. 2 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, spacious, nicely decorated, balcony, a lovely fireplace. All the amenities you need. We are in the historical center of the ancient hilltop town of Penne. Make the most of your stay: live like a local! Enjoy unspoiled Abruzzo.

The space
Spacious yet cozy, this 2 bedrooms house is perfectly sized for a couple, young family, or small group of friends and is equipped with all essential amenities. Including safety features, kids’ stuff, WIFI, Netflix. Located close to shops, restaurants, and museums, it retains a romantic, tranquil, warm, and relaxing vibe.

From the moment you arrive, you will feel right at home and you will enjoy walking into the vaulted brick ceiling entrance. You will immediately feel the warmth of this place and a welcoming feeling.

The house is situated in the “centro storico” of Penne, an ancient town that has been occupied from at least the mid-Neolithic period and known as Pinna Vestinorum during the time of the Roman Empire. Due to the widespread use of bricks in every historical building and paving, people also use to refer to Penne as "la Città del mattone", i.e. the "Town of Bricks".

Friends and family often describe our home as a “piccola bomboniera”, meaning a little and cozy place, a small gem. The house was reportedly built around the year 700 and upgraded during the following centuries. We renovated it much more recently...no worries!

We really love our place and it has been our peaceful shelter for a number of years. During your stay, you will especially love that after a long day, you will be able to sit down, drink a glass of wine, and totally relax in a charming and cozy home.

Entrance/Living Room
You will enter this home through a spacious living room characterized by a beautiful brick vaulted ceiling and other antique features. What was originally the staple of the house, it is now a relaxing room where to sit down, read a book, watch a DVD or plan the activities for the next day. It features:

• Vaulted brick ceilings
• A pull out sofa bed with a full-size mattress
• Flat-screen TV with DVD player

Kitchen/dining room
Moving upstairs through a few stairs, you will enter the main living area of the house. This spacious and nicely decorated room is where you can enjoy a quiet dinner cooked at home, read a book while seating on the couch in front of the fireplace or watch a movie on Netflix. The kitchen and dining room feature:

• Vaulted brick ceilings
• Balcony (wrought iron railing)
• Counter island with tall stools (so families can chat over breakfast or while making dinner)
• Dining table with seating up to 6 people
• 2-seater sofa
• Fireplace
• Flat-screen TV (with Amazon Fire TV Stick, including NETFLIX and many other applications)
• Fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook meals at home
• Nespresso machine (besides the traditional Italian moka!)
• Dishwasher

Bedrooms
Literally two steps above the kitchen, you enter into the bedroom area. Warm and inviting, the two bedrooms have super-comfortable beds, which are perfect for diving into after strolling around on the cobbled alleys in the historical center or after your mountain hike! The main bedroom has a Queen sized bed and, if needed, we can easily add a crib as well. The second room has a small double bed that is super comfortable for one person, totally fine for two kids/teenagers, and probably a bit uncomfortable (but still doable) for two adults. Both bedrooms are very quiet and restful. They feature:

• Drawers and closets with plenty of space (and sturdy hangers)
• Curtains and privacy blinds
• A full-length mirror
• Seating options
• Alarm clock
• Reading lamps
• Many pillows!
• Dryer (discretely located in the smaller room)

Bathrooms
There are two bathrooms in the house. The main bathroom has modern white sanitary ware and blue tiles with mosaic patterns. It has a large shower, a large mirror, and plenty of space for storing your toiletries. You will see a blue sliding door and behind there you will find the washing machine as well as your clean towels. Almost forgot to say that essential toiletries are also provided.

An ensuite bathroom is attached to the smaller bedroom. A small and basic bathroom that simply includes a washbasin, toilet, and mirror. Simple but cute and useful!

Guest access
You will have access to our entire home.

Other things to note
We do not have a dedicated parking spot/garage and we want to be transparent. It is very rare to have a garage in historical centers of old towns such as Penne. Locals are used to parking on those narrow streets as they developed “special skills in doing so”. There are few parking spots right in front of the house as well as behind the house; though (very frankly) parking there will require good driving skills and a small/medium size car.

However, there are two parking areas within 200 meters from home, meaning just at a couple of minutes walking. Usually, it is not a big deal. You will receive all the detailed info before arriving.

Other Notes:
• The house is ideally suited to a maximum of 4 people. Two more people could be accommodated (sofa bed with full-size mattress) but it will be charged 20 Euro extra per day (per person).
• Your safety is our priority. The house has a fire extinguisher, carbon monoxide detector, smoke detector, and first aid kit.
• The house is also very kid-friendly. We have a safety baby gate for stairs, high chair, step tool, toilet seat reducer, crib, toys.

IMPORTANT. The garbage in Penne is collected daily (Monday – Saturday) as per the calendar established by local regulations.

Guests are kindly requested to follow the garbage removal rules as much as possible. In particular, in case of medium and long stays, please avoid accumulating and keep excessive trash inside the house.

Cleaning fees are only meant to cover the cost of standard cleaning between reservations.

Deep cleaning or extra time needed to remove extra garbage, may result in you being charged 50 EUR from your security deposit.

Neighbourhood highlights

Penne is a town on the Adriatic side of the Abruzzo region, sitting on several hills surrounded by olive trees between the Apennine Mountains and the ocean. The cobbled streets and exposed brick buildings present a pretty face of old world charm and southern-style hospitality.

Penne has a population of about 12,000. It is large enough to have a good social mix but small enough to be friendly and intimate. Despite being close to the beaches of the Adriatic and the national park in the mountains, Penne is not a tourist town instead a location that attracts niche tourists. You will enjoy the atmosphere and authenticity of a town that keeps its traditions and is proud of its heritage.

There are churches of various styles scattered around town as well as several museums to occupy your time: an archaeological museum, a diocesan museum with various forms of religious artwork, a natural history museum, and a modern art museum housed in a baroque palace. A colourful street market animates the town every Saturday morning. There is lots to see crammed into a small town!

Discovering the pretty piazzas and Renaissance-era palaces, having a coffee in one of the several coffee shops and eating in one of the local restaurants will be a lovely experience for you. Abruzzo cuisine is very well known and appreciated. A few restaurants serve up the hearty and authentic food at reasonable prices.

For sporty people, there are also many sports facilities in Penne, like a big swimming pool, tennis club, indoor climbing wall, and more.

You will find lots of advice and tips about what to do, where to eat, etc. when you will arrive at home.

Lives in Luxembourg, Luxembourg
We are an international family. Natalia is Canadian, and I am Italian from Pescara (Abruzzo), our boy Sam was born in Kenya, while our little girl Olivia in Luxembourg. They have been on a plane already more times than me at the age of 30! Natalia and I met in Kabul, travelled and lived around the world. We are now based between Luxembourg and Rome. We both work in the humanitarian and development sector. We love Abruzzo, we love Penne, and we adore our house. We often miss it! We found that the nature, the people, the culture, the food, and everything in Abruzzo are still unique, genuine and unspoiled compared with other more popular regions in Italy. We are heavy travellers and travel as much as possible, even with two small kids. We also love good food and wine. When we travel, we always ensure our holidays become great culinary experiences. When travelling, it is also important to see places where local people go, eat what they eat, do what they do, and so on. We often catch up with old friends on vacation since there is always someone around that we know! Friends and family always enjoyed our place in Penne. They told us it is a pity that we are constantly away and unable to enjoy our cosy and charming home, “la nostra piccola bomboniera”. Actually, this is the main reason we decided to rent our place on Airbnb: at least somebody will enjoy it! We look forward to making wonderful new friendships with people visiting my beautiful Abruzzo!
