Exceptional check-in experience

Recent guests gave the check-in process a 5-star rating.
Our beautiful eco-friendly barn, set within Eryri (Snowdonia National Park), is a mix of traditional stone exterior and contemporary interior, within landscaped woodland gardens. We have 360° views of the mountains, and are near Dolgellau, Machynlleth, Coed-y-Brenin, Lake Vyrnwy and Cader Idris.

Downstairs there is a lounge, kitchen and dining area, with a double bedroom and shower room. Upstairs there are two bedrooms - one double and a twin - and a bathroom.

The space
As you approach Pentrewern, you know you are about to stay somewhere very special. On entering the barn, you are met with a warm and cosy open plan ground floor with a contemporary rotating log burning stove. The lounge has comfortable but stylish leather seating with two sofas and an armchair, together with a large flat-screen smart TV with FreeSat, Bluetooth soundbar and DVD. There is also free Wi-Fi throughout (not fibre).

The dining area has a large table and chairs to seat up to six. The kitchen is fitted with a large modern range cooker with electric oven and LPG hob, large fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher, and is fully stocked with all the cooking utensils that you should need, as well as tea, coffee, sugar and milk so you can have a cuppa on arrival!

There is a bedroom on the ground floor with a queen sized double bed, and a ground floor shower room with basin and WC, ideal for those who might struggle with stairs. The open-tread staircase leads to the two first floor bedrooms – the master has a standard double, and the other is a twin room - and a bathroom with bath, basin and WC. There is also a travel cot and highchair available on request.

The patio area also has seating for 6, with a BBQ for relaxing on warm evenings after a day out, and has stunning views down the valley, which constantly change. We are set in 1.25 acres of tranquil gardens with uninterrupted mountain views in every direction - a truly rural retreat in Eryri. Have a wander around with a cup (or glass!) of something nice, sit on the benches and watch the birds nesting, listen to the sheep baaing or just sit and watch the world go by at our stream. On a clear night experience the stars in all their glory, and look out for shooting stars and our local barn and tawny owls!

There is a shared detached drying room with washing machine which you are welcome to use and ample parking for three cars.

Central heating is provided by an eco-friendly biomass boiler, electricity comes from solar panels and water is fed from the spring (treated accordingly). Other environmental considerations include a waste water plant.

The barn is completely independent from our farmhouse, giving you privacy, but we are right next door if you need us.

You will find a welcome basket waiting for you on arrival, and a basket of logs for the burner. Further logs are available to purchase from us if required.

Find us on social media (pentrewernbarn) for more pictures and updates!

House rules:
Maximum occupancy of six plus one toddler. Any additional guests that have not booked will be charged for or asked to leave.

One well behaved dog only please (no other pets). We do not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro), or any aggressive dogs. Please let us know if there are any four-legged guests joining you on your trip when booking. Dogs should be kept on a lead at all times in the garden, should not be left unsupervised in the barn, and all poop should be picked up!

Due to the steep garden and the stream running through it, children should be supervised at all times.

Please leave all gates as you find them, otherwise you may find a sheep or cow on your doorstep!

For insurance purposes, guests should ensure that all downstairs windows and doors are locked overnight or when not in.

The premises must be left clean and tidy on check out. We don't expect it to be spotless (that's our job!), but we also don't expect to have to clear food away.

We do expect wear and tear, and minor breakages, however any serious damage must be paid for.

Guest access
The Barn is a self contained property, with it's own front door.

Other things to note
Please note that we are unable to offer the charging of electric vehicles. However, there are now numerous charging points in the local vicinity, including Dolgellau, Machynlleth and Barmouth.

Neighbourhood highlights

This is a truly stunning area to stay, especially if you love the great outdoors. We are in a designated "Dark Skies" area (nightlights are set up in the barn to help you find your way around at night!), so it's worth spending some time on the patio watching for shooting stars! You might also be lucky enough to see barn or tawny owls, badgers, weasels, otters, bats and shrews...all without leaving the garden! And of course in the Spring, you can sit and watch the lambs frolicking in the fields that surround us!

Dinas Mawddwy is 2.5 miles away and there's a lovely walk there through fields and along country tracks, where you will find the Red Lion (Y Llew Coch), serving delicious homemade food at great prices - you won't leave feeling hungry!

Or stop off at Caffi'r Hen Siop (The Cafe in the Old Shop), where Jason and the gang will bring you coffee or a delicious lunch. We are often found there having cake after walking our Cocker Spaniel, Dilys around the village!

We are located under the "Mach Loop", a low flying area for military planes, so you may be lucky enough to experience an amazing flying display! This only takes place during the week, and it can be pretty unpredictable as to the timings, although it is never all day.

The beautiful Aran Mountains are just down the road, and Cader Idris is a 10 minute drive. The spectacular high peaks of Northern Snowdonia are just over an hour’s drive away, and the stunning coastline is about 30 minutes away, with miles of peaceful blue flag beaches and sand dunes to explore. The busier beach at Barmouth is a similar distance, and has all the facilities that a family might need!

The Red Kite Centre at Bwlch Nant yr Arian, Dyfi Osprey Project and The RSPB Nature Reserve of Ynys Hir are both about 45 minutes drive.

There are miles of mountain biking forest tracks in the hills and mountains surrounding us, with Coed Y Brenin 9 miles away, as well as Dyfi Bike Park. Redbull Hardline also takes place in the forest above the house each year!

Corris Craft Centre is just down the road from us, with 8 local crafters showcasing their skills, as well as the multi-award winning Dyfi Gin Distillery, and a lovely cafe with great cakes! It is also where you will find King Arthur’s Labyrinth and Corris Mine Explorers.

The Centre for Alternative Technology is less than 15 minutes’ drive away, and the Mach Comedy Festival takes place each May.

But don't just take our word for how wonderful Pentrewern is! Here are some comments from previous guests:

"Peaceful but dramatic. Large grounds with lots of enclosed spaces and a stream too. Amazing mountain hikes or woodland walks close by. Pubs and amenities also not far. Fantastic location. Friendly and helpful people too!"

"Thank you Helen and Steve, we have had an absolutely amazing stay! The place is beautiful with great views. Would recommend it. It is beautiful inside and out and we had a wonderful stay."

"With lazy breakfasts on the veranda looking out over neighbouring fields, listening to sheep, birdsong and watching the house martins nesting, we did not want to leave. We have never felt so relaxed and have already booked our next staycation."

"Thank you so much Helen and Steve for sharing your fantastic home with us. The cottage is absolutely fabulous, in a spectacular location. Thanks for making us feel so welcome."

"Just back from a great week away at Pentrewern. Helen & Steve are fantastic hosts. Pentrewern is lovely, the views are stunning and we loved the garden with the stream. The barn is a great place to stay, well equipped & the log burner is a big plus after a long walks in the surrounding valleys. The location of Pentrewern is great for walks and the Mach loop only 6 miles away the RAF jets and helicopters fly right over the barn. Coed Y Brenin forest is about 25 min drive away for mountain biking and walks."
