Welcome to our “Riggit Hut” - our dog friendly Shepherd’s Hut in the hills of the Glenkens. Enjoy an idyllic stay in our cozy hut with breathtaking views over the Galloway Hills. Completely private, this a perfect romantic getaway or rural escape to enjoy wildlife spotting, star gazing or simply to have a peaceful break from reality on our working farm.
The space
The hut consists of a kitchen/living area with a fold down bed and dining space, and an ensuite bathroom with a bathtub and shower head. The hut has a large sliding door onto a porch where you can enjoy your morning coffee and watch the locals go by (Riggit Galloway and Highland Cattle). There is also full electricity and hot water, however, to note, no WIFI is available.
Enjoy a gloriously good night’s sleep on a memory foam mattress with thick goose-down duvet and pillows to keep you cozy. The bed is on spring loaded hinges and can easily be pulled down at night and then folded back up during the day.
The kitchen area has induction hotplates and all cooking utensils to be completely self-sufficient. Alternatively, on a warm summer’s evening, enjoy some alfresco dining with our firepit and grill. Outdoor chairs and the first bag of firewood are provided. On colder evenings, light our wood burning stove and enjoy getting snug and warm in the hut.
The ensuite bathroom has a toilet, bathtub and shower head. All towels and bath and shower gel are provided.
Guest access
The hut is situated in a private field overlooking the Galloway hills and Galloway Forest Park, which is in a unique UNESCO Biosphere. We are located on the ‘hidden roads’ a beautifully secluded area but with easy access to neighbouring villages – Balmacllelan (2 miles), New Galloway (4.5 miles) and St John’s Town of Dalry (6 miles).
Other things to note
We welcome your furry friends at a limit of two small sized dogs or one medium sized dog per stay due to the size of the hut. There is a dog water bowl and poo bags provided. We are a working farm, so we ask that dogs are kept on a lead at all times when walking on the land and that all dog poo is picked up.
Things to note:
- Our car park is located at the bottom of a hill from the hut; this is a short 5-minute walk uphill through a field, and advisable not suitcase friendly.
- We ask that all gates are shut behind you when accessing the hut, situating field and when walking on the land.
- Dogs aren’t allowed on and in the bed, if there is evidence of a dog being in the bed, an additional cleaning fee will be charged.
