The space
Welcome to Secret Orchard!
Tucked away in nature but conveniently located less than an hour from London or the South Coast in picturesque Shackleford village just off the A3.
Our brand-new hut is nestled in our secluded fruit orchard, surrounded by old apple trees and established grass meadows with lovely views.
Inside, the hut has a large comfortable double bed looking out over the orchard. We have created an open multifunctional central space that serves as an area to dine, work or relax with a board game by the fire. There is a kitchen area with a Nespresso machine, kettle, toaster and 2-ring induction hob as well as a roomy fridge freezer and plenty of hot and cold mains water. The bathroom has fully on grid services including a power shower.
Outside the hut is a private gravel patio area to relax with a good book, dine or enjoy a glass of whiskey in front of the fire pit.
The wood burning hot tub is on the second, slightly elevated patio, and has a lovely view of the neighbouring horse field, occupied by friendly polo ponies.
There is also a small private lawn under a shady Bramley apple for you to enjoy. during your stay.
We provide sheets, towels, soap, dishwashing products and a breakfast of coffee, tea, milk bread, butter and jam. If you are travelling light and would like us to arrange for the fridge to be stocked with something special, please let us know and we would be happy to help.
Neither the hut nor the house overlook each other, but we are usually on-hand to help if needed.
The hut has been set up with on-grid connections for your convenience with a fully flushing toilet, power shower, heated towel rail and dedicated Starlink wifi.
- Things to enjoy during your stay:
There are several great walks that take you to excellent pubs. We can recommend the Cyder House, Shackleford, The Stag at Eashing and The Squirrel Inn Hurtmore.
Slightly further afield we'd recommend The Withies Inn, Compton, The White Hart, Witley and Guildford for its old-world market High Street overlooking the Downs.
- Other things to know before you book:
Surrounded by nature, we are home to a lot of different wildlife. You are likely to see hedgehogs, rabbits, deer, foxes, red kites, woodpeckers and ground nesting birds during your stay. Sadly we can not welcome dogs as a result.
The hut is not suitable for young children due to the steps and the wood burner.
The Shackleford Village shop and post office is located 2 minutes walk away and open weekdays 0830-1330 and weekends 0900-1030. Its an easy place to collect a few extra supplies.
We provide towels and bedding so you can travel light, but we do recommend you consider bringing pool shoes and a light robe if you plan to make use of the hot tub.
We provide a torch but recommend guests walking out in the Autumn and Winter bring walking boots or wellingtons as there are also several nice walks across fields to local pubs that are good but muddy going in the dark.
The log burner in the hut is fully functional but please be careful! If you have not used a wood burner before please be aware that the outside of the burner will get very hot.
There is a lot of clean and lit storage space under the bed which can be used to store bags. We recommend guests use holdalls as luggage for their stay allowing the bags to be pulled in and out from under the bed as needed.
