Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Located in the middle of Laurie Lee’s setting for his book Cider with Rosie, this is a rustic camp tucked away at the very top of a 12-acre smallholding with picturesque views across this lovely Cotswolds valley. Situated in a little meadow of its own is the yurt, not overlooked by anyone. Outside is a covered camp kitchen with two-ring gas stove and sink, table and chairs, fire pit and bbq, compost loo, firebath, sauna and sun loungers for enjoying the finer days.

NB Firewood is FREE

The space
Our yurt was handmade in the South West using oak and ash, insulated with wool and furnished simply and comfortably using natural materials wherever possible. It is cosily equipped with a double bed, a small sofa bed, feather and linen bedding, woollen blankets, table and chairs, LED lamps and a log burner for the cooler months. It comfortably sleeps 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children.

The yurt has a basic outdoor kitchen comprising a 2-ring gas burner with a grill, a sink with running water and all the usual kitchen utensils. Of course we really encourage visitors to use the fire pit and bbq for cooking beneath the sun and stars as much as possible. For this we provide a Kadai fire bowl set-up with grill, tripod, pots, pans and tongs.

Our rustic 'wild spa' comprises a fire bath - a re-purposed tub tucked under the trees and heated by a wood fire, and (new for autumn 2024) a wood-fired sauna with an incredible view across the valley to Swifts Hill. Chemical free and more water-conscious than a standard hot tub, the bath is wonderful on a clear starry night and equally fun in the rain -it can also be used as a cold plunge between sauna sessions. The sauna is hand built, and clad with cedar for aromatic steam. Also new for autumn 2024 is an outdoor hot shower.

PLEASE NOTE: We are still making final tweaks to the sauna/shower, so are yet to upload images. We are keeping prices low this season and encourage constructive feedback.

Eco hand wash, shampoo/body wash, surface sanitiser and hand sanitiser are provided. Please use these or bring your own but make sure it is biodegradable.

Guests are able to purchase produce from the farm as and when available - including steaks from our 100% pasture-fed Belted Galloway cattle grazing in the valley, and salad from the poly tunnel.

Guest access
Guests will have sole use of the yurt, outdoor amenities and the surrounding meadow. Every effort is made to leave guests in peace and in the event that we need to carry out farm work near by we'll let guests know in advance.

Other things to note
Please note that we do not mains electricity. Water at the yurt drinkable tap water. The sauna, firebath and logburner all use firewood...which we provide FREE OF CHARGE.

Neighbourhood highlights

Our location offers the best of both worlds - with stunning views across the Slad Valley and Cotswolds AONB. We see lots of deer, owls, foxes and badgers and the night sky is heavy with stars. On the other hand we are situated about half way between Stroud, where there is an excellent Farmer’s Market every Saturday, and the locally renowned Woolpack Inn - hands down one of the best in the region - each reachable on foot in about 30 mins or less.

Hi! Myself and partner Eddie are working to bring this smallholding back to life. Edward has worked across design, building and forestry sectors. I've worked in international development and rural enterprise with traditional crafts and sustainable use of natural resources being key themes - both here in the South West and overseas. Eddie studied at the Royal College of Art, often taking a ‘design and build’ approach, having harvested and milled much of his own timber for various projects he firmly believes in championing local materials and working in a sustainable way. As the current custodians of Wades Farm, our vision is to turn it back into a productive diverse, smallholding while managing its meadow grassland, native hedgerows and beech woodland to maximise biodiversity, attract bees, insects and other wildlife and build soil health.
