Dating back to 1771, The Mill Cottage is a beautifully restored old English cottage in the heart of Stokesley. Once home to local artist and historian Alec Wright (1900–1981), it blends original character with modern comfort. Enjoy cosy interiors, a private courtyard and easy access to the North York Moors. Just a short stroll from independent shops, pubs, restaurants and scenic countryside walks, it’s the perfect base for exploring North Yorkshire.

The space
The Mill Cottage is a cosy two-storey cottage full of character and charm. Downstairs you’ll find a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable living space, perfect for relaxing after a day exploring. Upstairs features a beautifully styled double bedroom with a king-size bed and a modern bathroom. Outside, guests can enjoy a private enclosed courtyard with seating. The cottage has been thoughtfully refurbished throughout while retaining its historic features, creating a unique blend of old-world charm and modern comfort.

Guest access
Guests will have exclusive access to the entire cottage and private courtyard throughout their stay. This includes the living area, fully equipped kitchen, dining space, bedroom, bathroom and outdoor seating area. There are no shared spaces, allowing you to relax and enjoy the cottage in complete privacy. Self check-in is available for a smooth and flexible arrival.

The cottage doesn’t have assigned parking but we honestly never find it an issue. The high street starts literally on the corner opposite & there are 2 types of parking there;

The tarmac marked bays, which are the closest, are completely free.

Further round, the cobbled spaces require a parking disc to enable free parking. I have left a number of these discs in the kitchen drawer at the cottage.

Other things to note
The Mill Cottage is a historic property dating back to 1771. While it has been fully refurbished, some original features, including traditional cottage staircases and uneven floors, have been carefully preserved to maintain its character and charm.

The cottage is located in the centre of Stokesley, meaning shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants are all within easy walking distance. Free parking is available nearby.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement, making The Mill Cottage an ideal base for exploring the many dog-friendly walks and attractions North Yorkshire has to offer.
