The Elms holiday home in the beautiful Devon countryside is a spacious self-catering accommodation, sleeping up to 12 guests. Perfect for large family holidays, multi-generational stays, walking groups, and midweek breaks.
This beautiful character Georgian house boasts lovely sympathetic styling alongside traditional charm with modern comforts, bringing together both old and new. Creating a warm, inviting Home where memories are made.
Outside you have a large space with beautiful surroundings, the perfect backdrop for morning coffee or golden-hour chats.
Whether you're celebrating a special occasion, enjoying a family holiday, or planning a walking getaway, The Elms holiday home combines space, charm and comfort for a truly memorable Devon escape.
Bedrooms and Layout
The Elms offers 5 beautifully styled bedrooms:
Sycamore (room 1) & Douglas (room 2)
Master bedrooms with private en-suite walk-in showers, zip-and-link beds that convert from twins to super kings, charming traditional decorative fireplaces, ample wardrobe space. Front facing views of the countryside.
Cedar (room 3)
Family-friendly with bunk bed plus
zip-and-link bed. Large flat screen tv with fire stick allowing guests to sign into their accounts to watch Netflix and on demand tv, ample wardrobe space. View of neighbours well-kept garden.
Rowan (room 4)
Cosy double with a charming wardrobe - ample room for guests wishing to hang a few essential items.
Limited views of the orchard.
Elder (room 5). Ground Floor
Unique, quirky, cosy double with walk-in shower and sink unit. Whilst it cannot accommodate wheelchair users it provides a welcome alternative for those who find stairs difficult to manage.
Please be aware that Elder has electrics suitable for bathroom facilities only. In this room you will only find a USB charging point and pull cord light switches.
Towels are provided for all guests staying at The Elms.
Two travel cots (under 2 years) can be provided in addition to the 12 guest beds.
Family bathroom
A spacious family bathroom, conveniently located between bedrooms 3 and 4, offers both a separate bath and shower so guests can choose between a refreshing rinse or a relaxing soak. A stylish vanity sink unit provides plenty of space for everyone's essentials - perfect for families or larger groups, while a traditional ceiling mounted airer adds a practical and nostalgic touch.

This open-plan kitchen and dining room really is 'the heart' of The Elms. It's a large, light and airy space extending from the front to the back of the house.
Thoughtfully designed for gatherings, It's an ideal place for everyone to gather, cook and enjoy a meal together. Our 12 seater dining table invites long, laughter-filled meals. From the window, enjoy views of the rolling fields that bring the countryside indoors. Just outside the window, unwind in the 6-person hot tub.
For toddlers, The Elms can provide 2 x high chairs for those family-friendly holidays together.
The kitchen is well equipped for everything from gourmet cooking to casual snacks. With an electric range cooker and dishwasher. Or why not use a local fine dining company to cook your dinner whilst you relax?

Lounge and Living
Lounge with peaceful countryside views. Seating invites relaxation, reading and quality time with friends and family. A large flat smart TV has been placed over the fireplace to allow for extra room whilst lounging and taking things easy. Georgian details add timeless charm and gives that touch of splendour, cosy-up in the winter in front of a wood-burning stove, with logs and kindling supplied throughout your stay.
Garden and Hot Tub
Step outside into a peaceful small, enclosed garden, perfect for safe play and to enjoy the fresh Devon air.
Guests can sink into the 6 person hot tub, relax and unwind while soaking up sweeping views of the Devon countryside. On a clear night, star gazing is a must, you might even be lucky enough to catch the odd shooting star. The perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring.
Enjoy outdoor dining and socialising together on locally made wooden benches, ideal for long, relaxed lunches or sunset dinners under the open sky. Whether it's morning coffee or evening drinks, this outside space brings nature's calm right to your doorstep, whilst capturing the views.
Fire up our charcoal Barbecue for an
al fresco feast, and watch the sunset, available from 1st April until 1st November.
Games Room/Cellar and entertainment
Head downstairs to the converted cellar, now a vibrant games room designed for all ages. Challenge friends or family to a game of pool, table football and table tennis, or press play on 'Retro Vibe' with our arcade machine, numerous games from Pac-man and Mario to Donkey Kong and Street Fighter. Choose your retro fun for endless entertainment. Perfect for keeping everyone entertained on those Devon rainy days or a fantastic space to unwind, laugh, and make lasting memories!
Orchard
At the quiet fringe of our little village, an acre of orchard waits for you.
Let off steam in the fresh air. Dappled in sunlight, wrapped in birdsong, and kissed by the countryside breeze. Children can climb and swing on the wooden play structure while grown-ups sip tea under the apple trees.
Three sides are embraced by hedges and fences, while the fourth opens to The Elms car park and driveway, shared with two neighbouring cottages.
Whether you're here for picnics, stargazing or simply breathing in the calm, this is your pocket of rural magic.

The Elms is located in the quiet village of Shillingford, making it the perfect base for a countryside escape. Whether you’re an enthusiastic rambler or prefer a gentle stroll, there are beautiful walks right from our doorstep, letting you enjoy the fresh Devon air and rolling landscapes.
Just a 5-minute drive away is Bampton, a historic charter town with charming shops, cafés, pubs, and restaurants. Ample free parking makes it easy to explore, and guests wishing to dine out are advised to pre-book to avoid disappointment.
For water lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, Wimbleball Lake is only 6 miles away. This scenic reservoir is perfect for watersports, walking, and exploring miles of bridleways suitable for all ages and abilities.
Tiverton, 9 miles away, offers supermarkets, shops, pubs, and restaurants. It’s also home to the Grand Western Canal, Devon’s last horse-drawn barge, where you can enjoy a seasonal boat trip with crew in historic costume - a truly memorable experience for all ages.
With easy access to Exmoor National Park, you can take in breathtaking scenery and spot the famous roaming Exmoor ponies. Stop at a countryside inn for refreshments along the way and explore pretty market towns and villages like Dulverton, South Molton, Withypool, and Exford.
