Just a few minutes stroll from the majestic dunes and beautiful sandy beach at Camber Sands this spacious weather-boarded house is the perfect home from home to share with family and friends.

The Salty Dog consists of 3 bedrooms, each with zip-and-link beds, with en-suite shower room to two bedrooms; family bathroom; open-plan kitchen/ lounge/ dining area; children's playroom and WC. The fully enclosed garden is ideal for children and dogs to play in and also for those alfresco meals.

The space
The spacious, open-plan layout of the ground floor opening out onto the garden is a lovely social space to share with family and friends. The 3 bedrooms are each furnished with zip-and-link beds (double or twins - the choice is yours), two of the bedrooms have ensuite shower rooms, the family bathroom is adjacent to the third bedroom. There is also children's playroom/ snug perfect for mixed generation families and groups. The fully enclosed garden is ideal for kids and dogs to play in and any sports equipment can be stored securely in the garage. To the side of the house is an outdoor tap with hose for showering sand off dogs (and kids) after playing on the beach. There is private off road parking for two cars on the property.

Genuinely family friendly, The Salty Dog is equipped with travel cots, high chairs, stair gates, etc. etc. to make holidaying with a young family as stress-free as possible. We can cater easily for twins with two of everything needed and even triplets with a bit of notice. There are also plenty of toys and games.

The enclosed garden and play room set this house apart from others in the area. We have given a lot of thought to providing for families with a host of additional equipment including, bed guards, booster seats, baby monitor, steriliser and baby bouncy chair, as well as a good selection of indoor and outdoor toys and games. We can cater for two or even three babies with cots, high chairs, booster seats etc. We have also paid attention to the safety of our your little ones with stair gates (top and bottom of each staircase), socket covers, kitchen cupboard and drawer locks and all our window blinds are "blind-safe".

The beds in all the bedrooms can be made up as either a large double or two singles and each has space for a travel cot.

We welcome dogs (but do charge an extra £25 per booking for guests with dogs to cover the cost of additional time spent cleaning).

Guest access
Guests have sole use of the entire property including garage and garden.

Other things to note
All the bedrooms can be made with a large double bed or two single beds, the choice is yours. There is space for a cot, which can be provided, in each room. Bedroom 1 is on the first floor and has an ensuite shower room and Juliette balcony, bedroom 2 also with ensuite shower room is on the second floor, bedroom 3 is opposite the family bathroom.

We provide cafetières and ground coffee. There is a Nespresso coffee machine which takes original size pods. You will need to bring your own pods.

Neighbourhood highlights

The winds coming off the sea and from the marshes makes Camber Sands a popular destination for water-sports enthusiasts. Kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing, wake-boarding, water-skiing and jet-skiing are all available locally either from the beach or on a large coastal lake just outside Camber.

The medieval town of Rye with it's cobbled streets and quaint shops is only 3 miles away. This pretty little hilltop town, once the haunt of smugglers, is steeped in history. The cobbled streets are now lined with art galleries, antique shops, artisan food shops, historic inns, restaurants and tea shops. The town also hosts many festivals and special events throughout the year including the famous Rye Bay Scallop Festival each February, the Bonfire Procession each November and a lovely Christmas festival in December.

The nearby marshlands of Romney Marsh are ideal for long county walks, bike rides, painting and bird watching. There are country and beach walks straight from the cottage, you will find OS maps, leaflets and books to help you choose, together with a folder of our favourite tried and tested walks. The National Coastal Cycle Path passes through Camber and you will also find leaflets detailing several other circular cycle routes in the cottage. There is plenty in the area to keep wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers busy. The nearby Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and Dungeness RSPB Reserve are home to many different species and many visiting birds too.

The local area also has many interesting castles, historic buildings within a short drive of the cottage including the Bodiam Castle, Hastings Castle and Battle Abbey.

Garden lovers will not be disappointed either as Great Dixter, Pashley Manor and Derek Jarman’s coastal garden are only a short drive away.

You can ride on a steam train, climb a lighthouse or explore caves once used by smugglers. With so much to do in the area it’s no wonder so many of our guests return again and again.

Camber village itself has a couple of nice restaurants including The Gallivant restaurant, The Dunes Bar and the Ray Bay Cafe. Our friendly local pub, The Owl, also serves excellent food and a selection of well-kept ales and welcomes dogs.

My work: Enjoying retirement!
Hi! I'm Carol and together with my husband Pete we own two holiday homes at Camber Sands and stay in both several times a year, that way we feel we know exactly what needs doing to keep the houses in tip top shape to give our guests the best holiday experience possible. We enjoy eating at the local restaurants, visiting local vineyards, walking with our dog Molly both on the beaches and the countryside and spending time with our family.
