*** Now in our second summer*** Il Corniolo is our 'happy place' - a charming rural Tuscan villa with modern features and a simple family-friendly design, perfect for you & friends.
Near the bustling tourist towns of Montelpulciano & Pienza, Il Corniolo is your home-from-home; a haven of countryside calm with lovely pool & hilltop views overlooking the olive groves & vineyards in L' Amorosa valley.
Our home-away-from-home is a spacious, well-appointed luxury villa for you to make memories in.
The space
The property is an 18th century former farmhouse, with rooms spread over two floors. There are six bedrooms in total and an additional two double sofa beds (one in the library; one in the study). Four of the bedrooms have full ensuite bathrooms. There are two further bathrooms in the house.
The ground floor has the large kitchen, with dining for up to 16 guests, a large living room with an open feature fireplace, a children's lounge with swing chairs and a television, two large bathrooms, a twin en-suite bedroom (which can also be made up as a King), a further King bedroom and a small double bedroom. The library (with some books and children's games) is also on this floor. From this floor you can access the outside dining terrace with views towards Montepulciano and doors open for easy access onto the lawned garden where dining tables can also be set up for dining al fresco.
The second floor has a smaller breakfast kitchen with seating for 6. There is a smaller, television lounge, a loggia for watching sunsets over the valley, a King en-suite bedroom with additional pull-out toddler bed (this bedroom also has a feature bathtub) and on this floor there are two further small double en-suite bedrooms.
The lawn is perfect for running around with views over the valleys below. Comfortable garden furniture and sun loungers mean there are plenty of options for relaxing and sipping wine in the sun. There is a BBQ near the pool. Plenty of wood can be found in the open garage near the upper parking area and charcoal can be purchased easily in nearby Sinalunga.
The pool (10 x 3.5m) has a shallow end with steps for easy access. Please note the pool is not gated and guests must supervise children when using the pool at all times. Guests use the pool at their own risk. The pool is available May through end September.
The property is served by air sourced heat pumps, underfloor heating and also has an air cooling system for the common spaces. This is not a full US-style air conditioning system, but rather cools the rooms down a little; the thick Italian stone walls usual keep the worst of the heat out too. There are portable fans and small portable air conditioning units available for the very hottest days and guests can use these at their convenience.
Guest access
Guests have full, private access to the main house, the gardens, woods and pool. There is a second structure on the property, which is an unconverted farm building and this is used for storage. Beyond accessing for firewood, this is not open to guests.
We do not live on the property, but Hanna is nearby for emergencies and any questions. Occasionally you may see our lovely gardeners and friendly pool service man: these people have their own access codes, but will be discrete and will never enter the house during your stay.
There are a couple of cupboards (one in the downstairs kitchen), one in the main upstairs King bedroom and another in one of the other upstairs bedrooms, which are locked. These are the owners storage cupboards as we still holiday here ourselves and keep our sunny essentials in Italy.
Other things to note
You will need a car. Il Corniolo is a rural home 2km outside of Sinalunga.
Guests are asked to bring a supply of their own toiletries, dishwasher tablets, washing-up liquid and laundry powder / detergents. There is no tumble dryer available, but plenty of clothes lines and pegs for speedy drying in the sun. One loo roll will be in each bathroom, but please stock up on more yourselves for longer stays.
Full bed linens and both bath and pool towels are provided. If you plan to use nearby thermal springs and/or the beach, please bring your own towels.
There is a cot and high chair available at the property. *Please bring your own cot linen*
**We apologise but no pets are allowed on the property**
***No stag or hen parties. This is a family home***
