Casa de las Viñas is a lovely rural house located in the traditional winemaking village of San Juan at the heart of the Utiel-Requena vineyards in Spain’s Valencia region. With a sunny terrace and outdoor kitchen and BBQ, our casa rural sleeps six guests in three comfortable double bedrooms - two can be configured as doubles or twins. San Juan is surrounded by vines and has amazing views of the nearby mountains. It’s the perfect place to enjoy great cycling, hiking, food and wine.

The space
Tucked away at the end of a quiet street in the peaceful, winemaking village of San Juan, Casa de las Viñas offers easy access to the countryside, mountains, towns and villages of the Requena area and wider Valencia region. The recently refurbished house is decorated in simple Spanish style mixing a traditional feel with modern features for a hassle-free stay. The house accommodates up to six guests in three comfortable double bedrooms. One room has a double bed, while the others can be configured as doubles or twins. There are two contemporary bathrooms, each with shower, basin and WC. The well-proportioned kitchen has traditional marble worktops and a large larder. It comes with an induction hob, electric oven, microwave oven, fridge-freezer and dishwasher. In the living room there’s a large comfy sofa and chairs, where you can socialise or watch TV. There’s also good Wi-Fi. You’ll find a large dining table too, and for the winter months, there’s a wood-burning stove. The enclosed terrace with pergola provides a great space to eat, drink or simply relax in the sun (or shade!). Just off the terrace there’s a WC, and a purpose-built undercover paellero and BBQ for cooking al-fresco. The garage houses the washing machine and offers secure storage for bikes and other larger valuables. There’s also a turbo trainer here.

Other things to note
Bordered by pine-clad mountains and dissected by olive groves and almond trees, the village of San Juan sits in gently undulating vineyards. It has a pretty little church, a small bar, and bakery that sells bread and snacks. There’s also a games pitch, a kid’s play area and a community swimming pool, which is open in the summer.

The house is located approximately midway between the lively Spanish towns of Requena and Utiel, around 8km from either. There are numerous traditional neighbouring villages and hamlets to explore as well, most of which are involved in wine production and many with their own cooperatives and bodegas where you can sample the excellent local produce. Requena, the largest town in the area, dates back to the Iron Age. Its history as a centre for the silk and wine trades is evident throughout the old town, La Villa, and its caves, churches, Moorish castle, medieval architecture and ancient narrow streets are fascinating.

There's a large choice of supermarkets, a wide range of independent stores and all the services you may need in the nearby towns of Requena, Utiel and San Antonio. Requena has a good market on Saturday mornings, while Wednesday is market day in Utiel.

It’s the perfect place to be outdoors. From road and gravel cycling and mountain biking, to walking caminos and running trails, there’s a huge choice of routes direct from your front door. It’s also easy to try other activities like rock climbing or kayaking, with good facilities near by.

The beautiful city of Valencia is less than an hour away, while the sun-soaked beaches of the Mediterranean are within easy reach for daytrips.

Our closest airport is Valencia, which is just 40 minutes by car. We also have a high-speed AVE train station on the Madrid – Valencia line less than 10km away. The A3 motorway is less than five minutes away, with good connections to other parts of Spain, including the ferry ports of Santander and Bilbao in the north of the country.

I'm obsessed with: Cycling, good food and great wine!
Speaks English and Spanish
We bought Casa de las Viñas after falling in love with the vineyards, mountains, towns, villages, people, food and wine of this amazing – and relatively undiscovered – part of Spain. As a keen cyclist I was staggered at the variety and quality of riding here. My enthusiasm for cycling, and our shared passion for the great outdoors (and great food and wine!) led us to the door of Casa de las Viñas.
