Hidden deep within the Dyfi Forest on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park is our unique, off grid cabin. With amazing views over the valley, you can just sit back and enjoy the natural world around you. If mountain biking is your thing, we are right on the Climachx Mountain Bike Trails and a stones throw from Dyfi Bike Park. There's lush river swimming spots, lakes, waterfalls and mountains to explore.
Our nearest beach is Aberdyfi, just 30mins away.
16mins drive to the epic Cadair Idris!
The space
The Artist - We transformed a local artists studio into a beautiful off grid retreat.
The Cabin has a super comfy built in King size bed from which you look out directly over the hills and valley opposite. There is the option of adding the single bed which pulls out under the double window.
There is solar powered LED lighting and a USB charger for mobiles - although you may not get a signal.
Inside the cabin you have a small but well stocked kitchenette with a kettle and sink so you can make a brew in the morning.
There is a cosy log burner, for the cooler months or to cheer up a rainy day!
A stable door leads outside to the covered veranda with the gas BBQ & hob for cooking your meals. Round the back is a washing up station and a gas powered hot shower. We supply towels & your nature friendly shampoo, conditioner and soaps.
You also have a fire pit and comfortable outdoor chairs ideal for star gazing on clear nights.
There is an outside tap for cleaning off muddy boots & Mountain Bikes which is located by the bike stand to the side of the cabin.
The compost loo is a short walk down the bank and we think it is rather nice! Please follow the instructions you'll find inside to keep it sweet smelling.
Guest access
We are a family of 4 with a dog and 2 cats living on a 5.5 acre small holding that dates back hundreds of years. The original house burnt down in 2008 and we have rebuilt a modern off grid home in its place..still in progress, still learning.. Depending on the season you may see us doing some work on the land. We've planted 800 trees, 200 of which are close to the cabin. You are welcome to explore the land and woods and mountain beyond. The cabin is set back away from the house and is not visible to us. There is a bridle way that comes up past the house and above the cabin but we have only ever seen 1 couple use this over the years..
Access is via a forestry track from the village, Ceinws. The track can be rough at times, currently it's pretty good but you have to take it slowly. The last bit of track up to the house is steep but most people launch themselves up without a problem. Once you see the house turn left and park up. Phone signal is patchy once you are into the forest. We will give comprehensive directions when you book so you don't get lost!
Other things to note
If you would like a breakfast hamper:
Option 1: orange juice, milk, local bread, eggs, honey and jam or
Option 2: the added extras of sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes and sauces, please let us know a few days in advance which option you would like.
Being off grid the water supply to the cabin is from the mountain stream that also supplies our house, we can supply filtered drinking water and suggest to use this rather than from the taps at the cabin.
Local shops - Corris - Idris Stores shop and cafe in Corris (check opening times) and Dyfi Wholefoods are our favourites but there is also a Co-op and Spar in Machynlleth along with some fabulous cafes - Hermit Crab, Ty Medi and the Deli on the right hand corner before the clock tower.
We have a wonderful friendly local pub in the village - Tafarn Dwynant which is run by the ridiculously talented local artist, Kev, make sure you take a visit if you can the Tafarn is half pub half gallery.
The cabin currently has some of Kevins paintings on display (& for sale).
