Located in the vaulted barrel room of this former 17th Century Inn in the charming village of Great Elm, our guest suite is brimming with style and comfort. The George and Dragon is a rose clad cottage above the Mells river valley with its famous walks through ancient woodlands and the relics of old stone iron works. It has beautiful gardens with a lily pond and seating areas for afternoon teas. Nearby attractions include the City of Bath, Stourhead , Longleat and Babington House.

The space
With it’s log burner, reclaimed elm bed, Canadian goose down duvet and Egyptian cotton bed linen you are assured of a comfortable and luxurious retreat. The large bathroom features a walk in monsoon shower and Burlington sanitary ware. Breakfast is served in your own private dining room.

Guest access
We have ample free off road parking for several cars. The local bus to the pretty town of Frome, 3 miles away stops directly outside the cottage (Monday - Friday). Frome also has a mainline railway station. There are also local taxis.

Welcome to East Somerset, an area steeped in history and culture, National Trust properties, astounding walks and places to visit.

Great Elm dates back to 1084 although Roman camps existed here long before that. It is a pretty village perched on the edge of the Mells River valley. The valley is filled with old trees that form the protected forests that cover the river's path.

We are just 10 mins drive from historic Frome, a market town which has won numerous awards for it’s culture and beauty. Be sure to visit Catherine Hill notable for it’s many quirky independent shops. There's plenty of pay & display parking in the centre of town.

The stunning Georgian city of Bath with it’s well deserved World Heritage status is only a 30 minute drive away. Other cities and towns nearby include Wells, Bradford on Avon and Bruton. A visit to The Newt in Somerset just beyond Bruton is a great day out.

Longleat wild life safari park and Stourhead Park and House are within easy reach of this property.

Perhaps though, the thing that you will most remember from a stay with us is the beautiful riverside walk that runs directly opposite our house to the picturesque village of Mells with it’s renowned and well loved village pub, The Talbot.
