Experience a tranquil and unique getaway at Harray's Little Bothy - a cosy retreat with dramatic and panoramic views over the heart of Neolithic Orkney and the distant hills of Hoy.
There is a fully-equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge and bedroom, giving the feeling of staying in a cherished home.
Beyond the ancient landmarks, you're within easy reach of the charming harbour town Stromness and the bustling capital Kirkwall which offers a range of shops, pubs, and restaurants.
The space
The bothy is renovated to a high standard - kitchen cupboards, feature wall and bedroom ledge have all been built by recycling the wood which was found within the bothy.
The slate floor has been relaid using the stone that was used when the bothy was first built.
Fireplace and hearth are original to the bothy. There is also a wood burner.
The kitchen, lounge and dining area are open plan.
The bedroom, including ensuite shower and toilet, is accessed off the main room.
Guest access
Guests have their own patio area with seating and all of the garden and land is available to explore.
There is ample parking onsite, including directly outside of the bothy.
Access to local facilities, including petrol station, are in Dounby which is 5 minutes by car.
Stromness is 10 minutes by car and Kirkwall 15 minutes. Local bus routes are available but use of your own/hire vehicle is recommended.
Other things to note
Our local residents include wild rabbits, hares and hedgehogs.
A myriad of birds visit the garden and loch Harray. We occasionally see a short eared owl and have regular visits from a hen harrier hunting in the garden.
Minimum stay of 4 nights in low season.
Minimum stay of 7 nights in high season.
