Need more space? It's also available for two more people by adding "Le Mazot", a charming and self-contained mini-chalet on the same property. "Le Mazot" is only available as an add-on to La Petite Foret, and only one group of guests is ever on the property at a time.

The Chalet:
______________________

The chalet is a gorgeous traditional construction in local larch wood, sympathetically renovated by a local architect to make a light and airy modern space inside. Custom made dining table with plenty of room, and comfortable seating with a corner sofa and two armchairs. It's warm and cosy with a woodburning stove bringing ambiance to the living area. Downstairs is all underfloor heated, and there's an extra radiator in the living area if needed.

New handmade kitchen in solid oak with reclaimed larch wood facing and black granite work surfaces, induction hob, extractor fan, oven, dishwasher and a large fridge-freezer. It's very well equipped with high quality cutlery, crockery, knives and pans.

High thread count crisp Egyptian cotton bedding, three thick towels for each person, waffle bathrobes for the sauna and hot tub.

Logs for the fire and sauna are included.

We have plenty of room in our private parking – please tell us if you want to bring more than two cars so we can arrange the parking to accommodate.
Garden front and back with beautiful views.

Setting:
______________________

Wonderful location in a secluded wooded setting on a small lane with no through road, but still only 10 minutes walk – 600m on flat ground – to the village bakery or the lift. Chamonix town centre is a 5 minute drive or 20 minutes walk on quiet and beautiful paths.

Family equipment:
______________________

Babies and tots are welcome, but La Petite Foret is not suited to all children aged 6-12. It has a small and beautiful interior with custom made furniture and textiles, and an open layout garden with no enclosures. If you think you would enjoy a relaxing holiday here with children 6-12 please contact us for more details. We welcome babies and toddlers, and provide cots, high chairs etc for free

Travel cot for up to 2 year old, or bassinette for small babies available.
High chairs, baby monitor, stair gates etc all available on request. No charge for family equipment
Please note, especially if bringing children, that though the gardens are bordered with trees, grass banks and shrubs, they are not fully enclosed or fenced. Children must be supervised at all times.

Pets
______________________

Pets are welcome but strictly by request. There are a number of factors that need to be discussed before deciding whether the property is suitable for your pet and some house rules for dogs that need to be agreed, which including not leaving them alone in the chalet. Please note, if bringing a dog, that though the gardens are bordered with trees, grass banks and shrubs, they are not fully enclosed or fenced.

Guest access
Entire individual chalet next to our own, on our large plot of meadow and woodland. Our lane is flat and snowploughed regularly in winter - however in the case of occasional very heavy snowfall, it is a legal requirement to have snow socks if you don't have winter tyres, from November to April.

Other things to note
Noise:
______________________

The chalet is the second of only two houses on a very quiet, unpaved, no-through road.
On the other side of the lane is a single line narrow-gauge railway which is used only by the small local valley train which runs from 7am until 8 pm. This little red tourist train, normally two or three carriages, runs slowly and is not frequent or excessively noisy, but can be heard in the chalet. It is not a big disturbance but just needs to be mentioned.

Although there is essentially zero traffic on the road the chalet is on, as with many chalets in Chamonix, it is possible to hear the cars on a nearby road.

Numbers:
______________________

We do not recommend La Petite Foret for four adults as there is only one bathroom, and the bunk room is really too small for two adults. We recommend it for three adults, or two adults and two children.
If you'd like to bring more people to enjoy the space, you can rent our mazot as an extra bedroom.

Wildlife:
______________________

We are at the border of the village and the garden is bordered on two sides by trees. In the forest there are deer, squirrels, lizards, frogs, birds, butterflies, bees and so on. There are, as is normal in a natural environment, insects around the garden, which may possibly come in via open windows or doors. In general we don't get a lot of mosquitoes due to the altitude but it's a possibility on warm summer nights.

Dogs:
______________________

We welcome dogs and have two dogs ourselves (Daphne, a Spinone Italiano and Alissa, a spaniel mix). There is no reason for you to encounter them during your stay unless you would like to. If you don't want to encounter them for any reason, we quite understand, just let us know in advance.

Absolutely no smoking anywhere inside or outside
______________________

Please note there is absolutely no smoking anywhere on the property, inside or outside, including the balconies and garden.

La Petite Foret just does not work for even the most considerate of smokers. This is for two main reasons. Firstly, the house is made entirely of wood and we are in a forest area, so it’s a fire risk. Secondly, the smoke blows in from the balcony and comes in on clothes Guests had always been very considerate about smoking only outside, but it didn’t prevent the smell, and it’s impossible to remove in a day, especially in a house of wood and textiles which really absorbs the smell. So there is now absolutely no smoking allowed anywhere on the property at all.

Neighbourhood highlights

Perfectly positioned at the edge of the village with road-free access to walks.

Close to everything you need, south facing and bright, in a magnificent setting ringed with woods and mountains, the chalet is in the outskirts of Chamonix, in the village of Les Praz.

Les Praz is one of the most sought after areas of Chamonix - it's pretty, sunny, flat and hosts the newly updated Flegere lift - fast modern individual bubbles with panoramic windows have replaced the old cable car.

The valley is flat here, so all these are on level ground.

Walk directly out of the gate onto the superb walking & cycling trails of the flat valley floor, or start classic Alpine walks from the door. We are very centrally positioned for walks and all the valley floor is accessible without needing to go on a road at all.

• Ski Lift – Flegere is 5-10 minutes walk (600m)
(Please note Airbnb lists us as ski-in ski-out as we are close to a lift. It is not what I would call ski-in ski out - it's a short walk to the lift. You can ski in/out to the cross-country ski trails though! )

• Bars 5-7 mins walk (450m) including the excellent and convivial Petit Social and the more upmarket Castel with its lovely terrace

• Restaurants 5-10 mins walk (300 – 600m)

Restaurants range from cheerful pizzeria at the Cremerie des Moulins to superb modern alpine at La Cabane.

• Shops including an excellent little bakery / grocery for your morning croissants, a newsagent, post office and 3 equipment rental shops) 5-15 mins walk (400-700m)

More about our neighbourhood
___________________________________

Les Praz, a five minute walk from the chalet, is a sunny and charming area of Chamonix with a traditional village feel. A small bakery / grocer stocks necessities such as local cheese, wine and charcuterie, has excellent freshly baked bread and stays open until 7.30pm

There are several friendly, English speaking ski and snowboard shops, a newsagent and a post office, half a dozen restaurants and a couple of bars, including a nice apres bar & cafe.

In summer, some of Europe’s most spectacular mountain hikes can be started right from the door – or the Flegere lift, within a 5-10 minute stroll, can whisk you up to the start of the high alpine walks.

Cycling at all levels is great here, from relaxing flat valley floor trails straight out of the gate onto car-free tracks, to challenging all day routes, on roads or trails. E-Bikes can be hired locally to increase your range and enable long days out without too much tiredness afterwards.

The Chamonix golf course, a short walk away, is a world class eighteen hole course with superb views. The leisure centre with its tennis courts and excellent swimming pools is about 15 minutes walk. (NB outdoor pool is closed for 2020. Lake swimming is available in lovely Lac de Passy, 25 minutes away.)

Chamonix centre is a five minute drive (see next section for access details) - a classic lively and dynamic mountain town with its huge choice of restaurants, shops ranging from local and homespun, to chic and upmarket.

Although much is walkable from here, a car is very, very strongly advised - see "Getting Around" section for more detail.
