Welcome to our lovely, warm & cosy holiday home. With private parking our coastal cottage looks small from the outside but can sleep up to 8 and is fantastic for getaways with family or friends.
With some sea views and close to the National Sailing Academy, the cottage is a great place to explore Portland and the local area. Being a 10 min walk from Portland Marina and Chesil Beach, it's the perfect spot to indulge in sailing, bird-watching, diving, kayaking and other outdoor activities.

The space
Our Portland cottage is over 200 years old but is furnished to a high standard with all mod cons. There are two reception rooms, including a brilliant dining room which accommodates all the family. The lounge has a top of the range Smart TV but you'll also find a cinema room (bedroom2) with plenty of films to choose from, an X-box games console and plenty of space to relax.

Free private parking for one car is right outside the front door on our own driveway with lots of other free, unrestricted parking opposite and in the same road.

There are 3 large double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, one being a shower room on the ground floor. One of the bedrooms doubles up as the cinema room with surround sound and an Xbox just in case the British weather tries to ruin any activities.

The galley kitchen is small but perfectly formed with a dishwasher, washing machine, gas hob, electric fan oven, microwave and coffee machine(Tassimo). For your convenience there's always milk left in the fridge for you and tea, coffee, coffee pods & hot chocolate is always available.

Outside we have a south facing courtyard garden (no grass)which gets extremely hot in the summer and has a comfy seating area, perfect to enjoy a glass of something cold. There is also a covered drying area with hanging rail for wetsuits, diving equipment and a Weber BBQ.

There is also a secure hook to chain up any bikes or kayaks.

The second floor attic bedroom has 1 king size bed.
The front first floor bedroom has one king size bed and a single chair bed.
The first floor cinema / bedroom has a king size sofa bed and a single chair bed.

Please let us know when booking which beds you require making up for your arrival. Beds are made up for your arrival and towels are provided.

A floor plan can be found in one of the additional photos which gives an idea of the layout and how the sleeping arrangements are laid out.

We love to be flexible to suit your needs and always try to accommodate earlier check in or later check out when needed by guests.

We are extremely dog friendly and believe your family pet is an integral part of any family holiday. Dogs are allowed everywhere at the cottage and whilst our garden is enclosed it would be best to keep any eye on them!
A Medium - large size dog crate (3ft x 2ft x 2 ft high) + a smaller dog crate (2.5ft x 1.5 ft x 1.75ft high) are available to use at no charge if required and arranged in advance.
Dog sitting is also available at a charge of £12.50 per hour (min 2 hours) please contact us to book.

Neighbourhood highlights

Neighbourhood highlights.

Portland has some of the most unique and rugged coastal landscapes in the south of England. It is less than 5 miles long and 2 miles wide but rises greatly which makes for some iconic views over Chesil Beach. It is part of the Jurassic coast which is a world heritage site and the coastline and disused quarries have been designated sites of scientific interest, due to the abundance of flora and fauna. If you’re looking for outdoor activities such as sailing, rock climbing, diving, birdwatching, windsurfing, walking and cycling - then Portland is for you. If you’re looking for safe blue flag beaches, buckets and spades then a trip to Weymouth or further along the Dorset Coast to Poole and Bournemouth is advisable.

The cottage is located in Castletown which has been designated a conservation area due to it's historical and architectural interests. Originally a fishing port, over the years it became a thriving commercial area for boat yards and naval facilities, only for this to decline in the 1990's when the Navy pulled out of the area. The area is now slowly undergoing regeneration with the arrival of cruise ships and local business investment, it can be bustling with activity. This includes port traffic, (especially if any cruise ships are docked), helicopters, tourist visitors, outdoor/leisure centres plus the local pubs and hotels.

We are lucky to have SO much to do right on the doorstep, the (seasonal) ferry to Weymouth and Portland marina, South West Coast Path, The D-Day Centre, Osprey Leisure centre (swimming pool), National Sailing Academy, Portland Castle and Chesil beach. These afford visitors and locals alike numerous opportunities for outdoor sports such as kayaking, windsurfing, climbing plus rainy day activities at the museums, leisure centres, cafes and pubs.

Almost next door is 'The Adventure Cafe' which does an amazing breakfast! For those interested in history, walk around the corner to Portland Castle or visit The D-Day museum almost opposite. Fancy a dip? Sea swimmers will be in your element with the beach across the road! For warmer water just over the road in the opposite direction is Osprey Leisure Centre with swimming pool and gym facilities.

Getting around

There are so many places nearby such as Portland Marina and The Cove Inn on Chesil Beach that are only a 1/2 mile walk, as well as the south west coastal path which runs metres away from the cottage. The local buses run to Weymouth every 10/12 minutes, where there is the mainline London railway line, direct into Waterloo.

There is also a seasonal bus service that runs around the Island stopping off at places of interest such as Portland Museum and Portland Bill.
The open-topped bus that runs though-out the summer is a breath-taking journey around the island and over the causeway to Weymouth - must be done!
