Welcome to the Highlands and Islands for a mini retreat holiday at our little Self-catering cottage at Struanlea on the Isle of Skye. Skye is the biggest Island of the Hebrides accessible via the Skye Bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh.
The space
Our house is called ‘Struanlea’, a Gaelic word meaning ‘sheltered place by a streamlet’.
The charming and tranquil cottage is situated in the back garden of our house at a little burn. It is ideal for honeymooners, small families (one child) and people who would like to find some time to relax and reflect. Described as a bed-sit, the cottages offers a one room (ca.30sqm) open plan with a double bed and an one person bunk bed (child), kitchen and sitting area and an en-suit shower room.
Sorry, but unfortunately due to Covid-19 regulations guests can't use the peace chamber in the garden which offers space for Yoga, meditation and reflection.
As a registered Interfaith Celebrant Sonja Ganga is able to marry people of all faith and none which gives couples, who dream to get married on the Isle of Skye or the Highlands, the opportunity to have a uniquely designed, legal wedding ceremony (outdoors or indoors).
If you enjoy some relaxation and want to unwind from daily noises and a hectic life-style you can book yourself treatments of various complementary therapies offered by (email hidden) therapists at Sonja’s nearby clinic.
The cottage has Wireless Broadband for those of you who want to keep in touch and use their laptop computer or mobiles on holidays or plan a writing retreat.
There are also boundless opportunities for walkers from short walks to proper hill walking. The next sandy beach is a fifteen minutes’ walk to the shore where children can paddle in the water watched by seals, seagulls and buzzards.
Fishing, Horse Riding, Boat trips and Seafaris are as popular as going on Nature trails around the Island discovering the different sceneries. Art and Craft and Gaelic History and Music give you a deeper insight of the Scottish Culture.
Restaurant and Pubs are in the next village approx. 3 miles away and some of the Hotels offer Scottish High Tea, a “must” for this area.
Please note that during high season (July and August) we only accept full week long bookings.

Originally from the South of Germany, we moved to Skye in 1995 following a strong call from the island. Since then we have raised our son and established ourselves in various business. After the death of Sonja in 2022 Chris moved to Sweden and is managing the cottage mostly remotely.
Struanlea is a charming little cottage in the back of our garden which Chris has built 18 years ago.
