The Duddon Nest is the perfect get away destination for you. Set in the heart of the picturesque Duddon Valley it surprises with a unique blend of traditional and modern style.
The Duddon Nest is part of a traditional 17th century, stone long house, The Low Farm, home of Sabeen, Richard, Izaak, Hamish and the dogs Neo and Kali, 3 cats and a few hundred bees.
The space
The one-bedroom appartment provides accommodation for 2 adults and 2 children.
The property is on two floors, has electric heating and comprises:
Traditional cottage kitchen and dining area with wooden floor, belfast sink, fridge and double electric hob. No oven, but a microwave with oven features. You will also find a slow cooker for a nice stew, enjoying the stunning views across the Duddon valley.
The lounge with carpeted floor and comfortable sofabed, which is perfect for up to two children, is open plan with the kitchen and provides a 30" smart TV and a big chest of drawers for your belongings. it is the perfect space to rest and to enjoy the amazing views across the cottage garden to the fells.
The quirky and fun bedroom is located in the mezzanine loftspace, accessible via a staircase, and offers a cozy double bed. You will feel like sleeping in a "Nest", elevated with glass panels. The bedroom is nestled in underneath the roof with old beams and has only limited headspace.
The spacious bathroom offers a delightful, traditional rolltop bathtub and a walk-in shower, toilet and sink. You can relax with views to the garden and fells.
All electric, bed linen and towels are included.
The private balcony offers glorious views over the fells and invites you to sit and watch the change of the scenery in the Duddon Valley., which made it a favourite location of William Wordsworth and Alfred Wainwright, both of whom wrote extensively about this beautiful part of the Lake District.
The Duddon Nest is criss-crossed with footpaths and bridleways offering a gateway to the fells and the Coniston mountains. Secluded, peaceful and with stunning views, The Duddon Nest offers the perfect location for the Lake District visitor looking for inspiration and relaxation.

The Duddon Nest is situated 1 km from Ulpha and 6 km from Broughton-in-Furness, in an area of natural beauty. The Duddon river is only a short walk away. It has access to the central lakes and is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, anglers and nature lovers.
We will provide you detailed descriptions how to find us.
Upon arrival you will find your parking space near the entrance to The Low Farm on the roadside. The entrance to The Duddon Nest can be found easily from the shared access with The Low Farm. You enter your holiday hideaway via a traditional stone staircase up to a balcony where you will find the entrance door. Please let us know if you need help carrying your luggage. We are happy to assist you at any time!
On the main floor there are the kitchen and livingroom and the spacious bathroom. The mezzanine hosts the double bed.
Whilst the balcony is for your private use, the downstairs outside area is shared with the family. If you bring your four legged friend, please make sure to keep it under control. Your dog can enjoy the magical woods just across the road opposite the property for it's daily business. Please make sure to tidy up after your dog.
Other things to note
Our family is living next door in The Low Farm. So whenever you need help, just let us know and we are happy to accomodate your needs.
On request we are also happy to provide you with freshly baked sourdough bread or eggs from the farmer nearby.
The nearest local village shops are in Broughton in Furness, which is six miles away. Village shops are closed 5pm midweek and all day Sundays. Therefore you may prefer to stop en route at Booths or M&S in Ulverston.
Richard and Sabeen also offer Shiatsu or Healing treatments which can be booked on request.
Please be aware that the staircases (outside and inside) are steep and that there is limited headspace in the bedroom.
In case you feel uncomfortable sleeping in the mezzanine, please let us know in advance so that we can prepare the sofabed for you in the living room.
in case you booked 2 guests and for whatever reason you don't want to share the double bed and you need the sofabed to be prepared, there is an additional charge of £20. This fee will cover extra cleaning costs. You can bring this either in cash or we provide our bank account details. We appreciate your understanding.
