Our beautiful Shepherds Hut is located in the heart of Pickering on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. Close to Dalby Forest, the NYMR and only 20 minutes drive from the stunning Yorkshire Coast, this is a unique opportunity to enjoy the novelty of staying in a hand built Shepherds Hut, but close to all the amenities that you may not enjoy in a more rural location. The Shepherds Hut is sited in your own private walled garden located on our stunning 18th century property.

The space
The Shepherds Hut was built by Gary and Clare in early 2024. It replaces a wooden structure that was used by the Dale brothers as a paint shop for their hand built carts.

It is built on a traditional steel chassis and is fully insulated. Made from materials sourced locally, it has plenty of electrical sockets, TV (with Roku), fibre wifi, electric shower, toilet, traditional barge log burner and everything you need to have a comfortable stay.

The kitchen is made from a traditional 1950s kitchen unit. It has a sink (cold water only), single ring induction hob, kettle and toaster. Cutlery, utensils, plates, cups and glasses are all supplied.

The main living area houses a log burner, sleeping area and comfortable chairs. There is storage for suitcases underneath the bed and hanging space for coats and some clothes beside the bed.

In the sleeping area there is a bluetooth speaker, 36" smart TV with Guest Roku so you can access all your own streaming services and safely sign out on your departure. There are also lots of books and board games for you to enjoy during your stay.

The bathroom is small, but perfectly formed. It houses an electric shower, sink with hot water tap and toilet. Towels are provided along with some basic toiletries for your use.

Outside, you have access to your own private, gated garden with a small table and chairs. The garden is decorated with festoon lights, which make it magical on an evening. Disposable BBQs are allowed should you wish to have one.

Access to the Shepherds Hut is via our yard (you will be given the code to the front gate prior to your stay). We have two dogs - sadly, Mac, is terrified of other dogs which is why we cannot have dogs stay in the hut - but both he and Elvis (our black lab) LOVE!! humans and will no doubt say hello at some point during your stay.

Enjoy a glamping experience with only a 5 minute walk to Pickering High Street with its array of shops, pubs and restaurants. We love where we live and we hope you will too.

Please note: We also own a property in York, for which we have achieved Superhost status 3 years in a row! If you would like to combine your stay with us with a few days at our York property, please let us know.

Guest access
Access to the Shepherds Hut is via our yard. You will receive the code to the gate prior to your stay. Your area is within a gated, walled garden at the rear of our property. It is very private and isolated from other properties, but does adjoin other gardens.

Parking is on-street.

Other things to note
We live on the edge of the North York Moors, close to Dalby forest and 20 minutes from the coast. If you enjoy your outdoor activities then we can provide additional facilities such as a power washer to clean mountain bikes and, for a small fee, washing machine access.

Pickering is situated on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. Close to Dalby Forest and a 20 minute drive from the Yorkshire Coast and Yorkshire Wolds. Best known for its heritage railway, The North Yorkshire Moors Railway, it also has a castle and picturesque high street with a host of cafes, restaurants, vintage shops and independent retails. There are several pubs in the town and a bar that is open late on weekends. Just along the A170 are the picturesque villages of Thornton Le Dale, Hutton Le Hole and the small towns of Kirby Moorside, Malton and Helmsley are a short drive away.
