Neighbourhood highlights

The PIggery is located in Cragg Vale, Calderdale, a beautiful part of Yorkshire, in between Hebden Bridge and Halifax.

Cragg Vale is the heart of ‘Coiners Country’, home of the 18th Century coiners gang - locals who made their own counterfeit money! Benjamin Myers wrote ‘The Gallows Pole’ about the locals and their antics, which has been adapted for screen by Shane Meadows.

For those interested in screen, you are staying in ‘Happy Valley’ (BBC crime drama with Sarah Lancashire and James Norton); Last Tango in Halifax, (BBC comedy drama with Sarah Lancashire, Nicola Walker, Anne Reid and Derek Jacobi); and Gentleman Jack, (BBC historical drama, with Suranne Jones, adapted from the historic life and times of Anne Lister, local landowner and industrialist, and owner of the breathtaking Shibden Hall). Sally Wainwright has written all three series, a local lass herself!

Your location for your stay is 5 miles from the vibrant town of Hebden Bridge, known for its community spirit, shops, great pubs, eateries, arts and the National Trust site of Hardcastle Craggs for great walks.

You are just under 7 miles away from Halifax, home to the Piece Hall, built in 1779, once a cloth market, now home to many unique shops and eateries, and in the last couple of years it has been transformed into a summer gig venue, a hidden treasure we are proud of. We have had a number of great names play the venue in the last couple of years (George Ezra, Sting, Tom Jones, Noel Gallagher, Ellie Sax, Limp Bizkit, Queens of the Stone Age… to name a few), and we are looking forward to more this Summer!

Halifax is also home to Shibden Hall, Bankfield Museum, Dean Clough and The Shay Stadium.

Haworth, and Bronte country is only 14 miles away, where you can visit the Bronte Parsonage Museum, Keighley and Worth Valley railway and Bronte Waterway. Haworth also has some fantastic unique shops and places to eat/drink.

The Piggery is perfectly positioned for trips out further afield to Leeds (22 miles), Manchester (26 miles), Skipton (26 miles) the Yorkshire Dales gateway, Malham (35 miles), and Grassington, home of All Creatures Great and Small, (36 miles).
Right on your doorstep, there are endless walks along the Calderdale Way, a local farm shop, Craggies (1.5 miles) which covers all your basic needs and has a lovely café. The award-winning Alma Inn is 2.7 miles away, The Fleece, Barkisland, (5 miles), with many other places to eat in Hebden Bridge and locally.

The piggery is South facing and we have some incredible sun sets over the hillside with far reaching views, including a perfect view of the local monument Stoodley Pike.

For cyclists, you can enjoy a section of the 2014 Tour de France, Blackstone Edge Road (less than 3 miles away), the longest continuous incline in the UK.

Although situated in a beautiful rural location, we have 3 major supermarkets within 3-5 miles for all your essentials.

Hello I'm Gem. My husband Conrad and daughter Hattie moved into the Farm next door in October 2020 and undertook both a renovation to our home, and also the old Piggery (unused for 20 years) so we could begin welcoming people from all over the world. We were Airbnb Superhosts at our previous home, and live in a beautiful part of Yorkshire and look forward to sharing this experience with people from all corners of the UK and beyond!
