Y BIG ("The Beak" in Welsh, pronounced "uh beeg") a cosy detached stone cottage in Morfa Nefyn on the Llŷn Peninsula.
Rural & peaceful, but not remote - ideal location to relax & unwind.
Morfa Nefyn beach is only a 20 minute walk from Y Big & a stroll along the beach will get you to Porthdinllaen & the Ty Coch Inn, ranked one of the top three best beach bars in the world! Nefyn Golf Course is 2.24km away from the cottage.
Local amenities are a short distance away in Morfa Nefyn & Nefyn
The space
Y Big was built around the 1850s & was originally 2 houses - because of this, there are a couple of steps between the 2 halves of the cottage. It is constructed in local stone with a Welsh slate roof.
A ground source heat pump system runs the hot water & heating & we have a 9kw display of solar panels with battery storage - we're doing our bit to help save the planet!
As well as a great summer holiday location, Y Big is cosy during winter months too, with a woodburner, central heating & double glazing.
The cottage is the first property you get to on the grassy track leading from Cefn Morfa, the owners, Liz & Dick Wingham, live at Penrhyn, another 300m down the lane. Their contact details can be found on your email correspondence or in the manuals on the kitchen table in Y Big.
You enter the cottage through the sun room/porch. A great room for relaxing with a good book or watching the spring lambs playing in the fields.
From there you step up into the well equipped kitchen with microwave, electric oven & hob, tall fridge/freezer, dishwasher & large family-friendly pine table.
On the table you will find 2 manuals: the first with instructions & info on the various appliances in the cottage & the other with local information - best beaches, walks, places to eat, history of the Llyn etc etc.....
....also half a dozen eggs - if our hens are laying(!), a loaf of bara brith, tea, coffee, sugar & fresh milk in the fridge.
From the kitchen there are a couple of steps down into our cosy lounge with woodburner, ready-made for your first night. There are two 2-seater settees & a large TV & lots of games & jigsaws in the pine chest of drawers.
A door from the lounge leads into bedroom 1 with a double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers & ensuite with WC & wash basin. (A hairdryer can be found in the chest of drawers)
A glass door opens out onto the front of the house.
A corridor leads off the kitchen to the back door, the main bathroom & bedroom 2. The bedroom has 2 twin beds, bedside tables & a double wardrobe. There is a travel cot in the wardrobe if needed.
The main bathroom has WC, walk-in shower & wash basin.
Please note there is NO BATH in the property.
Next to the main shower room is a locked door to a small storage area where you will find cleaning equipment, spare logs for your use with the woodburner or the chiminea outside, clothes pegs, high chair & other useful bits & bats.
Outside, next to the porch, is a metal coffee table & 4 chairs. There is also a wooden bench in the front garden where our guests often sit with their morning coffee, taking in the lovely view across the fields to Garn Fadryn.
There are 2 garden areas: in front of the cottage & to the side, up some steps.
2 well behaved dogs are welcome, but please clean up after them. Also, be aware that the gardens are not secure & there are sheep & lambs in the surrounding fields, so please don't let your pets wander.
We live in a lovely spot & the sunsets are amazing, as are the dark skies. The Milky Way can be seen overhead on a clear night - & you may be lucky enough to see the Aurora Borealis!
Guest access
Guests have the use of the whole property & garden. There is plenty of room for parking.
