The space
Miner’s Cottage is a 19th century sandstone end of terrace property. Full of character and charm, the property has recently been refurbished to a high standard. The cottage sleeps up to four guests comfortably and is perfectly situated in the heart of this small rural community.
A welcome pack is provided to help you settle in and relax.
Upstairs the spacious main bedroom has a king size bed featuring a luxurious memory foam 'Emma' mattress, large solid oak wardrobe, chest of drawers and two bedside tables. The room features a traditional cast iron fireplace (not to be used).
The second bedroom has a standard sized double bed also with a quality 'Emma' mattress for your comfort, solid oak chest of drawers, bedside table and a large built in airing cupboard.
The upstairs bathroom is bright and modern providing a sink with cupboard underneath, mirror cabinet, toilet, heated towel rail and a waterfall shower over the bath.
Downstairs you will find a fully equipped dining kitchen with modern appliances; halogen hob, electric oven and grill, fridge, freezer, washing machine, microwave, kettle and toaster. An iron and ironing board, broom and mop are located under the stairs for your convenience.
The cosy sitting room is situated to the front of the property and features a traditional sandstone flagged floor and large fireplace with a functioning log burner with oak mantle. Perfect for snuggling up after a long day on the fells.
Feel free to use the Wi-Fi and log in to your favourite streaming services on the TV. There is also a DVD player and a selection of DVDs for your enjoyment. We have provided a range of books, games and local maps for use during your stay, and we ask that you kindly leave them in the cottage prior to departure.
Outside there is a gated yard to the rear of the house, with a patio and large wooden bench for soaking up the afternoon sunshine.
The log store will be stocked with plenty of firewood upon arrival, and the timber clad outbuilding is available for you to secure any outdoor equipment, bikes and mucky boots.
Kirkby Thore is perfectly situated deep in the Eden Valley, only a stones throw from the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and UNESCO Global Geopark. The village is near to the A66 for easy access to the western fringes of the Yorkshire Dales and the majestic Lake District National Park. Both are within a 30 minute drive.
Kirkby Thore is an active farming community and benefits from a well stocked village shop and post office only four doors down from Miner’s Cottage. Although only small, the village also has a primary school, historical church, memorial hall, two children’s play areas, recreation field with football pitch and basketball courts, and plenty of footpaths and bridleways.
The Eden Valley is a beautiful corner of Cumbria through which the River Eden flows, full of picture perfect villages built in the local sandstone, many of which retain a friendly local pub for a swift pint or a bite to eat. From your doorstep you can enjoy fantastic walks and cycling through the rolling countryside.
Historical and picturesque Appleby-in-Westmorland is the nearest town (approximately 10 mins drive) and offers a selection of independent shops and cafes selling local produce. There is also a Co-op and Spar for all your essentials.
The bustling market town of Penrith is only 15 minutes drive away. Known as the heart of Cumbria, here you will find larger supermarkets, shops, cinemas and various places to eat and drink. Penrith also acts as a gateway to the Lake District National Park from the Eden Valley.
Both towns have Tourist Information Centres.

Exclusive use of the whole house, back yard and secure outbuilding for storage.
Please note, the neighbouring properties have a pedestrian right of access through the rear yard.
Other things to note
Due to the age and layout of the house, it is not suitable for guests with restricted mobility.
The stairs are steep, and extra care should be taken on the first floor landing near the top step.
The open fireplace in the main bedroom is not to be used.
