The space
Welcome to Sea Pilot's Cottage, a beautifully refurbished Grade II listed gem on Weymouth's harbour front, offering a unique blend of historical charm and modern luxury.
We completed a long overhaul and full renovation of the property in July 2024, and launched it to Airbnb for bookings from 1st August 2024.
Originally built in 1807, the property belonged to one of the local "sea pilots" who guided larger, unfamiliar vessels into the harbour.
► Rooms
The hallway features a porch area with under-stair storage, perfect for pushchairs. Leading from the hallway, the dining room is located at the front of the house on the ground floor. This room boasts a wooden table and chairs for 6 (there is an additional chair in here, and one in the middle floor bedroom to allow you to seat 8, if required) with stunning harbour views. There is also a cupboard with a selection of our favourite family games and jigsaws for all ages.
The luxury kitchen is equipped with integrated Samsung microwave, oven and induction hob, integrated fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, and a single sink with mixer tap. It also features a breakfast bar with 3 stools and plenty of cupboard and shelving space. The window overlooks the rear courtyard.
Beyond the kitchen is our conservatory-style utility room and includes a Haier washer/dryer, cloakroom area, iron and ironing board, and a WC. From here, step out into the small, south-facing courtyard with outdoor seating and an extendable washing line.
On the first floor, the stylish lounge offers comfortable seating for 6, and a Samsung 32" full HD TV with Fire TV subscribed to Amazon Prime and Netflix, and other apps (your own account login details may be required for certain services). This room features a remote-controlled gas "wood-burner" stove for those chillier days and incredible harbour views from the wooden sash window.
The first floor also houses a king-size bedroom with a memory foam mattress and luxury topper, single wardrobe, dressing table, and a compact en-suite WC and shower. The en-suite itself is very small, and the WC includes an integrated basin unit to make the best use of space – but the shower is a standard size and everything functions well (even for our 6ft2" host!). Please note: due to the tight layout, this bathroom may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility. This south-facing room captures sunshine throughout the day and overlooks the courtyard garden.
The second floor features the spacious master bedroom, with a king-size bed, memory foam mattress and luxury topper, bedside cabinets, a small chest of drawers, and a small hanging rail. It offers magical harbour views, best appreciated from the freestanding bath in the room! Like many old cottages, ceiling heights are a little lower up here, which just adds to the character.
Also on this floor is a cosy twin room with two single beds, memory foam mattresses and luxury toppers, under-bed storage and a small hanging space - ideal for kids or additional guests.
A shared shower room with a shower, sink, and WC is also on this floor. One side of the room does have a sloped ceiling due to the quirks of the building’s original structure and layout.
The decor is traditional and sympathetic to its Grade II-listed status, with traditional lime plaster and lime-wash finish on the upper floors.
► Cleaning
Our cleaning fee is a contribution towards ensuring the house is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for your arrival. This includes professional cleaning service - as well as fresh, high-quality 100% white cotton bed linen and 100% cotton bath sheets for each guest - so you can enjoy a spotless and comfortable stay from the moment you walk through the door.
► Travelling with infants?
Travel cot and/or high chair(s) are available on request (please notify in advance to ensure availability). Due to our Grade II listing, we do not have stair gates installed.
► About Cove Row
Cove Row is a charming row of terraced cottages, four of which are Grade II listed, along the beautiful and bustling Weymouth Harbour. Within walking distance, you'll find a great selection of pubs, restaurants, cafes, and shops. A few minutes' walk takes you to Nothe Gardens and its amazing Fort. Across the harbour is the busy town and award-winning sandy beach. The property is also minutes away from the South West Coast Path, making it an ideal base for exploring this stunning trail.
► Parking
Although there is on street parking it is limited to ONE HOUR only, and parking control is strict. We recommend using one of the local 24hr car parks which cost £6.30* per day. You can pay for a single or multi-day period using the JustPark parking app. (*£6.30 per day as at April 2025, excludes JustPark app fee) Jo
Other things to note
Our lovely home was originally built in 1807, so isn't great for accessibility. There is a small step up in to house, and narrow stairs. Top floor ceilings are a little lower than expected.
Festivals along the harbour edge may cause some inconvenience due to some road closures and parking restrictions on certain dates during the year (Fayre In The Square normally takes place over May Spring Bank Holiday weekend and Wessex Folk Festival the weekend after)
Packing Tips:
► Weymouth is perfect for exploring on foot, especially with the South West Coast Path nearby. Comfortable walking shoes will make your adventures much more enjoyable.
► The weather in Weymouth can be variable. When it’s hot, it’s hot, but when it’s not, it’s not! Packing layers ensures you’re prepared for both warm, sunny days and cooler, potentially breezier evenings by the harbour.
► Don’t forget your swimwear, beach towels, and suncream. The award-winning sandy beach is just a short walk away, and you’ll want to be prepared to enjoy it to the fullest. (Towels at Sea Pilot’s Cottage are only for house use, not for the beach!)
► Binoculars: If you’re a nature lover or enjoy bird watching, bringing a pair of binoculars can enhance your experience, especially with the vibrant harbour and nearby coastal areas.
► Make sure to pack chargers for all your devices, and if you’re travelling from abroad, bring the necessary power adapters for UK outlets.
