Welcome to our beautiful countryside home! Situated in a private wing of a stunning 16th-century manor house, this gorgeous home is easily accessible to London and airports. Nestled into 22 acres of bucolic countryside, you'll enjoy our shared outdoor heated pool and tennis court.
The North Wing includes a grand lounge with a wood burning stove, enormous windows, soaring ceilings, and exposed beams. The two bedrooms are impressively spacious and thoughtfully designed featuring luxury linens.
The space
Shore Hall, within which the North Wing is situated, was originally known as Wood Hall or Woodhall and dates from the late 16th Century. Like many buildings of this period, this magnificent manor house has been remodeled and extended over centuries to provide the exquisite family home it is today. We live on the property and delight in welcoming guests to our tranquil home.
In addition to the North Wing, Shore Hall offers two other gorgeous residences: the 3-bedroom Writer's Cottage and the 5-bedroom South Wing, which you can find on AirBnB.
The North Wing's private entrance welcomes you into a beautifully designed kitchen featuring a Rangemaster oven, Fisher Paykel refrigerator and stunning views of the gardens, historic clocktower, and pond.
Every room has its own distinct character and style, all sharing the same commitment to beautiful details, exceptional comfort, and an outstanding guest experience.
The two bedrooms in the North Wing are impressively spacious and thoughtfully designed, each featuring luxury bed and bath linens carefully selected to ensure a restful night’s sleep. Boudica’s Haven is a stunning master suite with a full private bathroom, offering a gorgeous, indulgent retreat. Green Gables is a generously sized space that can comfortably accommodate up to four guests, with a stunning bathroom and additional WC. Both en suite bathrooms are beautifully designed, distinctively curated, and recently updated.
The North Wing's lounge is a sun-filled converted ancient barn, featuring historic exposed beams, soaring ceilings, enormous windows, and a grand fireplace with a wood-burning stove. Our banquet table stands at one end with seating for 10, while our cozy seating area offers a comfortable and stylish seating area for gatherings around the fire.
The manor house is situated on a working estate that we are proud to call home. It includes 22 acres of quiet, bucolic countryside that is also home to horses, sheep, dogs, and wildlife as well as our lovely guests. During your stay you may see us, the people who care for our land and our animals, and guests in our other residences, if they are occupied.
The grounds surrounding the cottage include a shared pool heated with solar electricity, shared tennis court, BBQ grill and 22 acres of stunning gardens, orchards, topiary, and paddocks with peacefully grazing sheep and horses.
While you will feel you are in the middle of nowhere, the lovely village of Finchingfield, known as England’s most photographed village, is just down the road. The cottage is also situated 25 minutes from historic Saffron Walden and 45 minutes from Cambridge. Trains run regularly from London’s Liverpool Street Station and Tottenham Hale, with a 50-minute journey through idyllic countryside, arriving at the charming Audley End train station.
Guest access
Staying in the North Wing of Shore Hall Manor House gives you exclusive access to our two beautifully decorated bedrooms, spacious kitchen, and stunning historic lounge.
The tennis court, BBQ grill, and pool are available for your use, although the pool is only open from April through September. To ensure our guests in each of our residences can enjoy private time with the pool, tennis court, and BBQ grill, we schedule two-hour slots for each residence. Please contact us to schedule your 2-hour session as early as possible; preferably at least 24 hours in advance. We ask that you bring your own pool towels and do not use our linens or glassware outdoors.
You may park conveniently just outside the front door. We are happy to offer electric vehicle charge points for our guests for a rate of £56 per day.
Other things to note
We highly value the tranquil nature of our environment and as such do not allow AirBnB guests to host parties or other events. Please note that we are only able to accommodate the number of guests you note in your AirBnB booking, and for safety purposes we will ask you to provide the names of all of your guests before arrival.
If you are traveling with children, we are happy to offer fun and engaging horsemanship experiences. For two hours, your youngsters will accompany our expert equestrians as they care for our friendly, well-trained horses and ponies.
This hands-on experience will teach them how to feed, groom, and care for our lovely herd. They’ll also learn about and get to participate in stable duties, including delightful jobs like mucking out stables and poo picking paddocks! You may even get to see some of our champion show jumpers training for upcoming competitions.
