Peace and quiet

This home is in a quiet area.
Shore Hall is a 16th-century manor house nestled into 22 acres of bucolic English countryside with a shared outdoor heated pool and tennis court. Easily accessible to London and airports, the tranquility of our gardens gives our guests a peaceful retreat like no other.

Our five bedrooms, chef's kitchen, dining room, and drawing room are thoughtfully decorated and illustrative of our commitment to beautiful detail, exceptional experience, and deep comfort.

The space
In addition to the South Wing, Shore Hall Manor House and Gardens offers two other gorgeous residences: the 3-bedroom Writer's Cottage and the 2-bedroom North Wing, which you can find on AirBnB.

Shore Hall, originally known as Wood Hall or Woodhall, dates from the late 16th Century, and like many buildings of this period, has been remodeled and extended over centuries to provide the exquisite family home it is today.

Our five bedrooms are thoughtfully outfitted with luxury bed and bath linens, hand selected to ensure a peaceful night’s sleep. Each room has its own unique look and personality, and they all share our commitment to beautiful detail, exceptional experience, and deep comfort.

Shore Hall boasts beautifully designed living areas, including a formal drawing room with a massive wood burning fireplace and a wood-panelled dining room with another wood burning fireplace.

The kitchen is a chef’s dream. It includes an impressive AGA cooker fueled by solar energy, two electric ovens, a warming drawer, an induction hob, two refrigerators, and two Bosch dishwashers. Our marble countertops offer plenty of space for cooking projects, and the spaciousness of the kitchen invites gatherings for joyful memory-making. (Please note that the Aga is not in use during summer months.)

The kitchen dining area seats six at a midcentury-modern table with stylish upholstered chairs. A desk at the end of the kitchen overlooks the terrace, gardens, and the great lawn.

The dining room sits just next door to the kitchen. With its wood-burning stove, exposed beams, and view of the terrace, gardens, and great lawn, it is perfect for special family gatherings. The dining room also includes a Samsung Frame TV, enabling you to select your own artwork, or display a family photo collection!

Beyond the dining room is our drawing room. The term "drawing room" is as old as the manor house itself, dating back to the 16th century. Visitors were invited to "withdraw" or "draw back" after dinner to a space where they could enjoy conversation and entertainment and relax away from the formality of gatherings. We are thrilled to continue this tradition five centuries later by welcoming our guests to sit, unwind, and enjoy this beautiful room. With a large wood-burning stove, spectacular views of the gardens and great lawn, and another Samsung Frame TV, you'll never want to leave this special space!

The grounds surrounding the Manor House include a shared pool heated with solar electricity, shared tennis court, and 22 acres of stunning gardens, orchards, topiary, meadows, and paddocks with peacefully grazing sheep and horses.

While you will feel you are in the middle of nowhere, the lovely village of Finchingfield, known as England’s most photographed village, is just down the road. The cottage is also situated 25 minutes from historic Saffron Walden and 45 minutes from Cambridge. Trains run regularly from London’s Liverpool Street Station and Tottenham Hale, with a 50-minute journey through idyllic countryside, arriving at the charming Audley End train station.

Guest access
Staying in the South Wing of Shore Hall Manor House gives you exclusive access to our five beautifully decorated bedrooms, chef's kitchen, beautiful drawing room, and wood-panelled dining room.

The manor house is situated on a working estate comprising 22 acres of quiet, bucolic countryside that is home to horses, sheep, dogs, and wildlife as well as our lovely guests. During your stay you may see the people who care for our land and our animals, as well as other guests in our other residences, if they are occupied.

Other things to note
The tennis court, BBQ grill, and pool are available for your use. To ensure our guests in each of our residences have private time at the pool, we schedule two-hour slots for each residence. Please contact us to schedule your 2-hour pool session as early as possible; preferably at least 24 hours in advance. We ask that you bring your own pool towels and do not use our linens outdoors.

You may park conveniently just outside the front door. We are happy to offer electric vehicle charge points for our guests for a rate of £56 per day.

If you are traveling with children, we are happy to offer fun and engaging horsemanship experiences. For two hours, your youngsters will accompany our expert equestrians as they care for our friendly, well-trained horses and ponies.

This hands-on experience will teach them how to feed, groom, and care for our lovely herd. They’ll also learn about and get to participate in stable duties, including delightful jobs like mucking out stables and poo picking paddocks! You may even get to see some of our champion show jumpers training for upcoming competitions.
