The space
Come home to The Hutch. Time and time again our guests comment that they have arrived in their home from home in Devon. Step into the peaceful sanctuary of your modern yet cosy cottage, complete with beautiful rural views. You will be led into the light filled open plan living, dining and kitchen area, with breathtaking views from your elevated position.

The sofa is perfectly positioned to cosy up in front of the fire and indulge in your latest TV fix or soak up the view of the hills and surrounding trees. Interior and travel books also provide inspiration, while you relax and enjoy a hot drink and biscuits. When dinner is served, again you can dine next to the floor to ceiling windows. If the weather is nice enough, al fresco dining is also an option.

Your kitchen is very well equipped so you can cook a meal to impress, pop in a simple oven ready meal or order a takeaway. The kitchen boasts an oven, hob, microwave, fridge (with freezer box), kettle, toaster, Nespresso coffee machine, cafetière, washing machine and tumble dryer. The wonderful view through the trees at the kitchen sink, takes in the Devon countryside and also the city, you can even see Exeter Cathedral, meaning washing up is never a chore.

Throw open the French doors that lead to your elevated terrace, fire up the BBQ or just read a book with a chilled glass of your favourite drink. The views over our garden take in the surrounding hills or watch the birds - deer, sheep, cows and horses can also often be seen. Owls are also a common nocturnal noise here. Plus our two friendly beagles, Chester and Billy, will often come and say hello.

Back towards the front door is your cosy bedroom. Sink into the king size bed with deep mattress, high quality bedding, cushions, stylish bedside lamps for night or day time reading. Plantation shutters at the dual aspect windows ensure a good night's sleep, cutting out all the light. A wardrobe with hanging space, drawers and shelves is tucked in the corner and hairdryer plus full length mirror is provided. There is also space for a travel cot, which we can provide along with bedding, with the exception of a sleeping bag for infants - please bring your own.

Opposite the bedroom is your fully tiled, stylish bathroom with full length bath, overhead power shower, high quality towels, handwash and shower gel. Wrap yourself in the fluffy bathrobes after a relaxing shower or bath.

For breakfast tuck into a continental selection including granary bread, pain au chocolat, madeleines, butter, jam, marmalade, cereals, muesli, porridge and local whole milk from our village. If you prefer a different milk or bread just let us know. Tea, coffee, sugar, olive oil, salt and pepper are also provided. For those staying 3 nights or more we will make sure you have a bottle of posh, local soft drink to sip and biscuits. Within 5-10 drive is a small Morrisons shop and Tesco Express can be found in St Thomas, or a large Sainsburys in Alphington. Or you can try Mount Boon Milk (30 sec drive) to fill up your glass reusable milk bottle from cows in the village, or buy clotted cream, butter, brownies and cheese. Even try adding syrups to your bottle of milk for a milkshake! All very local.

A welcome folder can be found in The Hutch providing local information and this will also be emailed to you after booking, but if you are new to the area and are looking for restaurant recommendations or a taxi to be booked before you arrive, then please let me know.

The Burrow can be booked along with The Hutch for two sets of friends or family members to enjoy a joint holiday but with your own personal space to return to at the end of the day.

Parking for one car is off the road in a private parking area, just outside your front door - this area is shared with parking for The Burrow opposite. Additional parking can be arranged at our property or along the road (a 2 min walk).

Please note there is no Carbon Monoxide detector in the cottage because there is no gas supply or fire - it is all electric.

Guest access
The whole of The Hutch is exclusively yours, including the outside terrace/balcony. Your home from home is located just off a quiet country road, with parking for one car right outside your door, meaning unloading your bags is nice and easy. More parking is available for free along the road a 2 min walk away. The lower parking area is solely for guest use and is shared with guests staying in The Burrow, our other listing.

Wifi is free and available in The Hutch - password is in the Welcome folder.

The balcony of The Hutch overlooks our garden and as such you may find that Chester and Billy (our dogs) may make an appearance and woof their hellos.

Other things to note
Supermarket deliveries can be arranged, meaning you can book your food shop to be delivered to your door. Several takeaway food places also deliver to Longdown - check out JustEat.

If you have an EV car and wish to charge it during your stay, please let us know. We appreciate this is increasingly becoming a benefit to guests so they can enjoy their break without wasting time charging in a car park, nor have to worry about looking for charging points locally. We are now pleased to offer a Go Zero Charge point outside our front door (this is for our own use, as well as guests). If you wish to use this service we will send you a separate document with the details of how to use and pay for it. Many guests how easy it is to use, but we are always on hand to resolve any issues if they arise.

Neighbourhood highlights

We are located 3 miles to the west of Exeter and 3 miles from the edge of Dartmoor National Park. In fact, it is one of the main reasons our house appealed so much to us. Proximity to such a fabulous city and also to the wild moorland scenery. Beaches are about a 20-30 mins drive away - Exmouth, Teignmouth and Dawlish are our favourites and all have great facilities.

Longdown is a small, quiet village 10 mins drive outside of Exeter. A children's play area is 5 min walk within the grounds of Longdown Village Hall.

We moved to Devon from Surrey 10 years ago after many years visiting the South West, craving a permanent move to the area. I am an experienced Airbnb Superhost, with over 8 years of doing my dream job. I genuinely love all aspects of running our business (even the cleaning!) and this reflects in our reviews & returning guests. We live onsite so are very responsive but respect guests' privacy. We love being close to Exeter but in the country - best of both worlds - and many guests feel the same.
