Highland Home With Outstanding Views

RubyRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Michele’s home was a wonderful place for us to spend some time with extended family in Scotland. Its location overlooking Inverness was beautiful. Great spot to chill out. There is a bus stop in easy reach of the house if you don’t have a car with you or a 10 minute drive into Inverness itself. Lots of space for everyone inside so we never felt we were on top of each other. Really comfortable beds! A real home from home and will definitely come back here on a return trip to Inverness

The Squirrels Aviemore -4 bed house with hot tub.

SandraRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
From the moment we arrived we knew we’d booked the right house for our family get together, it was perfect with a lovely enclosed garden making it safe for dogs and our granddaughter. It was in our very favourite part of Aviemore and we loved everything about our stay. Sarah was super helpful and always responded to any questions I had. We’d totally recommend The Squirrels and would love to stay again.

No.18 Cromarty Holiday

DavidRating, 5 stars3 months ago
Definitely one of the best Airbnb places we’ve stayed. Spotlessly clean, well located and easy to find. Lovely and warm for our arrival. Lots of thoughtful touches such as milk, bread, tea and coffee supplied for our arrival. Veronica was a really helpful host who replied rapidly to any message. Cromarty is a cracking small town with plenty to do and a really friendly local vibe. Would definitely stay here again.

Our Big Coo

RobertRating, 5 stars2 months ago
Absolutely fabulous weekend at an awesome accommodation, Graeme and Tracey were spot on with everything Being newbies to Airbnb I must admit the trip for us as a family of 4 could not have gone any better and certainly could not have spent it in a better place. The pod was so homely and clean with plenty to do as we are an outdoor kind of family beach walks, plenty of places to eat out and of course the free WiFi was great especially for the kids. We will definitely have to book in for another stay hopefully in the summer time and would highly recommend a visit here to anyone as it is a great location with stunning views

Your guide to Lochinver

All About Lochinver

Nestled on the Sutherland coast in the Scottish Highlands, Lochinver is a picturesque village and fishing port boasting dazzling beaches, mountain trails, and scenic drives. The area’s famous landmark, Suilven mountain, bears a striking geological formation as it looms over the coastal town. There’s an advanced hiking trail that brings you to the summit, but for a less demanding option, the River Inver and Glencanisp Circuit provide spectacular views, and Culag Woods offer a network of paths that wind through the dense woodlands. Panoramic coastal drives, including the drive to Achiltibuie and the Drumbeg Loop to Unapool, are popular ways to take in Lochinver’s landscape.

Running along the eastern end of Lochinver is the town’s main street, where you’ll find local shops, cosy cafes, and restaurants serving pies and fresh seafood. The village’s bustling harbour, which supports a busy fish market, is at the southern end. Lochinver’s location makes it a great starting point for exploring nearby coastal communities, including Inverkirkaig, Clachtoll, Stoer, Drumbeg, and the rest of the northwest Highland.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Lochinver

The spring and summer months are some of the best times to visit Lochinver as the warmer weather, longer daylight hours, and lower levels of rainfall make conditions optimal for enjoying hikes, trips through the village centre, and the beaches. Though temperatures never get too warm and the water is quite cold, this doesn’t stop visitors and locals from swimming, kayaking, and windsurfing. The Highland Games are held in Lochinver each August, drawing visitors from near and far to watch sporting events, bagpipe performances, and Highland dancing.

In autumn, it gets slightly cooler, but this is a great time to go hiking or to take advantage of the region’s mountain biking trails to enjoy Lochinver’s spectacular scenery. Temperatures rarely drop below freezing and the region does not see a lot of snow, but the city’s location on the sea makes it very windy. In addition, it rains a lot in winter, often feeling colder than it is. It is always a good idea to bring a couple of layers and an umbrella, no matter the season, as the weather can be changeable.

Top things to do in Lochinver

Falls of Kirkaig

Just south of Lochinver, you’ll find the Falls of Kirkaig, a spectacular 18-metre-tall waterfall that plunges into the gorge below. To reach the falls, you’ll have to hike a 3.2-kilometre trail that meanders along the River Kirkaig through woodland and open moorland. The path provides views of the rushing river and lush valley floor along the way.

Achmelvich Bay

With its clear turquoise waters, soft white sand, and rocky headlands blanketed in greenery, Achmelvich Bay is a must-visit attraction. The scenic spot is popular for swimming, hiking, and just hanging out on the beach. Water sports are big here, including kayaking, waterskiing, and windsurfing.

Ardvreck Castle

The picturesque ruins of the once-imposing Ardvreck Castle sit on a vibrantly green promontory on Loch Assynt. All that remains of the 16th-century structure are parts of the three-storey tower and defensive wall. The ruins are just an 18-minute drive east of Lochinver. As a safety precaution, visitors must observe the remains from beyond the range of falling masonry.
