We really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean and comfortable. Also loved the tie sofa! The centre of Seahouses and the coastal path were in very easy reach.

Swallow Cottage, Near Holy Island

DavidRating, 5 stars6 days ago
Absolutely wonderful stay in Swallow Cottage, spacious and well appointed rooms, bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen, looking out over the fields and hills. Lots of wildlife around the place and chickens on site which our eldest boy loved. Harvest and Dave were great hosts who were very responsive and helpful. The home made cake on arrival was a lovely touch. The cottages are in the middle of rolling fields but near enough to lots of places within 40 mins in beautiful Northumberland. We even caught the train to Edinburgh one day from Berwick(1 hour door to door). One of the best places we've stayed and wouldn't hesitate coming back.

Great for families and groups!

VictoriaRating, 5 stars4 days ago
We booked as a family of 8 (3 generations) with 2 dogs. Check in was as described. The house was immaculate- and just what we needed for our annual family trip away. Age of our party (73, 72, 51, 45, 42, 40, 14, 14). We took advantage of the snooker table and darts room, then also enjoyed being snuggled upstairs in the kitchen/dining/living area. Garden was large and secure… ideal for our little dogs, with a walk around the fields close by. We didn’t eat out, other than venturing to Dunbar for Asda supplies, we had every meal in the house. It was a really lovely family stay and we’d all definitely go back - the house had everything we needed - from hair dryer to music speakers, tooth picks to first aid kit (my brother in law had cut his finger at work and needed to replace a plaster). Also - it’s right next to train line and main road… but you don’t hear the noise at all. There was also plenty parking as described. We couldn’t fault the house at all. A really nice family stay x

One of the best Air bnb properties I have stayed in. Cosy and comfortable, beautiful location, peaceful surroundings but very accessible to all that the region has to offer. Amanda was also a wonderful and attentive host. Highly recommended.

West House, Shoreston - luxury home near the beach

JulieRating, 5 stars5 days ago
Beautiful house , immaculately clean on arrival with a welcome hamper which was much appreciated. The garden was an instant hit with our 3 year old granddaughter who loved running up and down the lawn playing games , and with a nice sun trap patio at the back. Ideal location for visiting nearby castles and attractions. Seahouses is a lovely little town with a well stocked Co-op Lynne was a really helpful host and very quick to respond to our messages. Would definitely recommend West House.

Your guide to Seahouses

Welcome to Seahouses

There aren’t many golden beaches where you can swim and sunbathe in sight of a 1,400-year-old castle and a holy island. But that’s just part of the delight of Seahouses, a fishing village that manages to be just as charming as the scenery packed around it. Set on a stunning bit of the Northumberland coast in northeastern England, this community is centred on its harbour, built in 1889, back when there was no village here at all, only “sea houses” built by residents of nearby North Sunderland.

Boat trips can help you encounter a bevy of wildlife from colonies of Atlantic grey seals to breeding puffins; or you can catch the waves with a body board, or stay shoreside and wander through miles of sand dunes at Annstead Links, a coastal nature reserve. Within the village you’ll find a number of gift shops, as well as independent butchers, bakers, and of course fishmongers, including a 150-year-old smokehouse.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Seahouses

If you’re here to laze around on the beach, aim to book one of the area’s cottages for summer, since the weather on the northeastern coast can make proper bathing a little brisk at other times of year. But this part of Northumberland looks fine all year long — it’s a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, after all. Just pack appropriately with layers and waterproofs and you’ll be prepared for anything. In August, you’ll see a group of cycling enthusiasts setting off on the 60-mile Great North Bike Ride to Tynemouth. August is also the month when the annual Lifeboat Fete is held. Boat trips to the Farne Islands run between March and October; bird breeding season is May to July, while seal pups are born in late autumn.

Top things to do in Seahouses

Bamburgh Castle

Constructed on top of black volcanic rock, this vast castle (still in private hands) looms 150 feet above the coast, and is no less impressive on the inside. The intricate teak hammer-beam ceiling of its monumental Kings Hall may, in fact, be a piece of Victorian artifice, but there have been kings on this site since the 6th century, and its state rooms are still piled with treasures.

The Farne Islands

Three miles off the coast, this group of roughly 20 islands (some submerged at high tide) contains one of the most important seabird sanctuaries in Britain, with dozens of species including puffins, terns, guillemots, kittiwakes, and razorbills. Staple Island is the chief one for bird-spotting, while Longstone Island houses a lighthouse that you can visit between April and October. You can also scuba dive at a number of shipwreck sites around the islands.

The Northumberland Coast Path

Running right through Seahouses, this coastal path is one of the best ways to explore the dramatic landscape that makes the area so beloved. The walk to Bamburgh is only three miles, but explore southwards and you’ll find plenty to keep you walking, from sweeping Beadnell Bay to the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle.
