Luxurious five bedroom barn-style retreat.

DanielRating, 5 stars3 months ago
Lucy was great - always responsive and helpful/clear with instructions. The place itself was fantastic, I was there with my wife, brother and some friends over New Year, and we were very comfortable. We had our dogs as well, who loved the garden! (Though note that the garden is not fully enclosed). We had a wonderful time - thanks Lucy!

17th century cottage in Matlock

ClareRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We had a wonderful stay. It was a very comfortable and cosy cottage, both attractive and functional. We felt immediately relaxed there. Thank you to Jane - she went beyond expectations, providing items beyond what was listed in the description. Also, the decor made it a very homely and appealing place to be. There were DVDs, board games and books to use which we enjoyed. We would thoroughly recommend this place.

Luxury newly converted oak cottage

ConnieRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We had a great stay at Sam’s place for a friends holiday, the cottage was spacious for 8 of us plus one infant with plenty of parking available. The surroundings are beautiful and there were some lovely walks directly from the cottage. Sam was really responsive to any questions we had. We also organised a grocery food delivery for our arrival which worked really well so would recommend to others too! The hot tub was excellent and the cottage felt very private considering the buildings around it. Would highly recommend so thank you! ☺️

A beautiful holiday home in Hayfield

RuthRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this little place. House was clean & comfortable for two & a dog. Beautiful, long walks right from the doorstep. Great house location for nipping out with the dog on shorter walks too. A track close to the property leads to lovely woodlands. Hayfield village offered so much more than we expected with its cute shops & good pubs. The owner was quick to respond to all our queries & was extremely helpful. We would certainly recommend the property & the area & hope to visit again soon.

Firs Retreat

BeckiRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We’ve just got back from a long weekend away at the Firs for my bestfriend’s hen do! It was amazing. The house was stunning, completely spotless, and well decorated! It looked even better than the photos when we arrived! Every thing you could need and more in the kitchen (dining stuff/glassware/utensils). There were fresh flowers in a vase on the table when we arrived! Spoke with Andy whilst staying there due to us needing to move some cars around (our mistake) and it was no problem at all, Andy was super friendly and helpful. Bedrooms/bathrooms all clean, along with hot tub and outdoor seating areas! Would recommend it to anyone. And not too far at all from Lincoln! It was perfect and we couldn’t have wished for better! We would love to come back at some point! Also, the new extension was stunning too! Well done and Thank you Andrew! :)

Entire House - Osprey Cottage, Manton in Rutland.

LouiseRating, 5 stars6 days ago
This is a wonderful place to stay. The house is comfortable, well equipped and spotless. It had everything we needed, including good size mugs and a teapot! Marie and Ben gave clear and easy instructions on how to get into the house and further information was in the house , if you needed it. Marie was in touch to check we were ok during our stay, which was kind. The garden was a sun-trap, making a tranquil place to rest after exploring the area. It's a perfect location, quiet, easy parking, an attractive village (with walks from the front door) and a pub 2 minutes walk away. We could not think of anything we would add here - a perfect place to stay - we'll definitely back.

Your guide to Sherwood Forest

Introduction

Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire is best known as the home of the legendary outlaw Robin Hood. Kings of England used the forest as a hunting ground; today it’s a mixture of public parkland, private estates, historic houses, and log cabins, not to mention Europe’s largest collection of ancient oaks. Walking paths and cycling routes crisscross the forest, starting with the National Nature Reserve, a bird watcher’s paradise with hundreds of species including treecreepers and woodpeckers as well as the elusive nightjar. Mountain biking trails through Sherwood Pines cater to beginners and experts alike, while the northern area offers a step back in time to the days when this part of the Midlands was home to grand aristocratic families.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest enjoys the kind of moderate weather the UK is known for: summers that are warm but not hot, and winters that are cold but not extreme. Average lows from December to February drop to 34 degrees Fahrenheit; average highs in July, the hottest month, reach around 72 degrees. Summer is a great time to visit, but expect more crowds. Spring and fall are both beautiful in the forest, when the trees show off their most eye-catching colors, alongside a whole host of seasonal wildflowers. As ever, you can expect rain at any time of year, so pack layers, waterproofs, and an umbrella.

Top things to do in Sherwood Forest

The Major Oak

Folklore has it that back in the 12th century, Robin Hood and his Merry Men hid out in the hollow trunk of this mighty specimen. History can’t quite prove that, but science can confirm that this is the UK’s largest living oak tree, with a canopy reaching more than 90 feet, and it has been growing for more than 800 years. It’s a 15-minute walk from the visitor center at Sherwood Forest Country Park, and worth every step.

The Dukeries

By the 19th century, four large ducal estates made up the area to the south of Worksop. While not all of the grand houses have survived, their legacy lives on in their beautiful grounds, including Clumber Park, with its stunning serpentine lake, and the 1,000-acre Thoresby Park. Welbeck Abbey was a monastery until Henry VIII’s time, and has since been the seat of the dukes of Portland; today it exhibits contemporary art in its Harley Gallery as well as the historic paintings and artifacts of the Portland Collection.

Newstead Abbey

Founded in the 12th century as an Augustinian priory, Newstead Abbey, located between Mansfield and Nottingham, is the ancestral home of one of Britain’s most famous, and rakish, poets, who was the last in his family line to inherit the property — and sold it when he was desperate for cash. Its buildings and ornate gardens remain open to the public, and are allegedly haunted.
