4 bed barn conversion - Countryside & River + pets

RachelRating, 5 stars5 days ago
We have had a fantastic stay at The Swallows. This was our first family holiday with our two daughters, their partners and our one year old Granddaughter. The location was perfect and the accommodation had everything we needed. It was spotlessly clean. We loved being able to use the pizza oven for cooking and the location was perfect to visit all of our favourite haunts. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

We had a lovely stay, the place was clean and was as described. Check in was easy and Fergus let you check in early and late as no one else was booked in. You are staying in the town so no need for a car, lots to do in the area. Over all great place and would return

Ganders Cottage at Highway Farm, Bridport

MarkRating, 5 stars8 months ago
We had a lovely stay in Ganders Cottage, with two young children. The cottage was spotlessly clean, pleasant to stay in and we put the patio to good use by having breakfast there every day. We even spotted a pheasant from the garden. The kids enjoyed the cottage and it was very family friendly. We only regret not taking the time to explore the farm and walk the area. The cottage was ideally situated to explore the Jurassic Coast, and we had many lovely outings to the nearby beaches. Charlotte and Robin were great hosts, attentive yet unintrusive, kind and thoughtful. They gave us good tips before and during the stay.

Great Coombe - panoramic views & lake

KatherineRating, 5 stars2 days ago
We stayed as a family group of 6 adults and 3 kids over Easter. The location and view were beautiful as was the local area. We saw a woodpecker visiting the bird feeder several times which was a nice treat! Our trip was geared towards children’s activities and we had lots of choice of things to do in the local area within a 30-45 minute drive. The games room was a great bonus and provided hours of enjoyment for kids and adults alike. The house was very clean, tastefully decorated and well presented with a very well equipped kitchen. The downstairs living area was spacious and had ample seating so there was always somewhere to flop at the end of the day. Nicola was pro active and helpful and responded very quickly to any questions we had. Overall we had a lovely time at Great Coombe :-)

A very well appointed and comfortable property with pretty much everything you would need. Excellent kitchen, bathroom, laundry facilities, sitting / dining and very spacious bedroom. We would gladly stay again and would not hesitate to recommend it to any couple, or a couple with a child.

Best Sea Views in Bigbury

CarolRating, 5 stars6 days ago
What a real gem of a place! It was all about the views across the bay. We spent an enjoyable week watching all the surfers of various sorts through our binoculars. The beautiful sunrises and sunsets too. The house and sofas are a little dated but it was excellent value for money and we had no complaints. There were plenty of games and puzzles to enjoy too. We enjoyed the short stroll down to the Venus cafe, beach and across to Burgh Island. The Pilchard Inn a favourite spot with the lovely weather we had. We hope to visit again in the future. 😊

Your guide to Beer

All About Beer

Beer is a small fishing village on the East Devon coast with stark chalky cliffs, cobblestone streets, and stone cottages painted white to match the surrounding bluffs of Seaton Bay. The famous Jurassic Coast surrounding Beer is a UNESCO World Heritage Site noted for its dramatic rock formations, diverse landscapes, and fossil beds, providing a look at organisms from millions of years ago. Hiking trails run up and down the coast, offering commanding views of some of the most jaw-dropping scenery in all of England.

Beer itself is a traditional fishing community with a meandering, walkable town centre and flint-covered homes overlooking the beach below. Beyond taking things slowly at streetside cafes, indulging at seafood restaurants, and browsing boutique art shops, people come here to swim, fish, and paddle from the accessible pebbly beaches just on the edge of town. The larger city of Exeter is just 45 minutes’ drive drive away, home to ancient underground passages to explore, quayside pubs for al fresco lunches, and an imposing Gothic cathedral.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Beer

The weather patterns in Beer are characteristic of southwestern England’s temperate coastal climate. Mild summers with long sunny days and pleasantly warm temperatures create excellent conditions for enjoying the local beaches and hiking in the Devonshire countryside. The summer months tend to be the best time to look for a holiday cottage in Beer, as the sea is too cold to swim in for the rest of the year, and some businesses shutter their doors for the off-season.

If visiting in the winter, be sure to bring layers and a waterproof jacket, as these months tend to be chilly and wet, with modest upticks in the rain compared to the rest of the year. Spring and autumn provide a middle ground, with mild temperatures and occasional showers. While the village itself may be small, the surrounding area hosts a wide array of festivals and events throughout the year. The Dartmouth Food Festival in October is a culinary celebration with regional foods on display, in addition to chef demonstrations and workshops.

Top things to do in Beer

Beer Quarry Caves

This artificial cavern system of chalky limestone rock formations snakes its way under the cliffs surrounding Beer. The earliest work on the site dates to the Roman period, and operations ran almost continually until the early part of the 20th century. The stone from here was used to make Windsor Castle, Westminster Abbey, and other important English buildings. Today, visitors can explore the cave systems and get an insight into the region’s geological and mining history.

Dartmoor National Park

In the centre of Devon about an hour’s drive from Beer, Dartmoor National Park spans river valley woodland and vast, sprawling moors dotted with wild ponies. It’s also home to rare bat species and otters, among other animals. Archaeological sites and stone circles constructed with granite — some of which date from the Bronze Age — are scattered throughout the moor and along its hundreds of kilometres of hiking trails.

Fine Foundation Heritage Centre

Just steps from the beach, this volunteer-run educational centre highlights the history of the village and its sealife through photographs and other artefacts. In addition to cultural history, the centre details the geological timeline of the surrounding cliffs and pebble beaches that lie along this stretch of the Jurassic Coast.
