Honeysuckle Cottage On The Beach

AndiRating, 5 stars1 week ago
What a great stay. The house was beautiful and right in the beach and by the park. As a family of 5 and a dog Chad made sure we looked after and we felt very welcome. Everything was clean and tidy and made to feel like our own. We all loved it

Langway

EmmaRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Lovingly restored property with oodles of internal space for 6 (2 adults, 2 teens and 2 children). The high ceilings, exposed beams and the veluxe windows with views of the sky were particular highlights. Langway has all the amenities inside you could need and more. Lovely to have an air bnb place that has the key bits in the kitchen that make life a bit easier when you're only a way a short period and haven't bought absolutely everything with you - cling/foil/condiments/ squash. The welcome basket and bottle of wine was a lovely touch. Beds and bedding were really comfy. Sofas not super comfy, but we didn't spend long say on them as we were mainly out exploring. Not far to Kendal and to Windemere by car. Langway has limited outside space, but we knew that on booking and the little courtyard with table and chairs was enough for us. It does face on to the lane, but the lane is exceedingly quiet with only a handful of cars ever passing. Overall, would definitely recommend!

Green View, close to coniston lake. Pet friendly

LaurenRating, 5 stars1 week ago
This is a lovely place to stay in a quiet, peaceful location. Great view from the windows with lots of greenery. Coniston is nearby and a lovely spot for exploring. Comfy beds, clean bathroom and good shower- all the essentials! Hosts were also accommodating when we had a last minute change of plans due to flight times.

Corner Cottage, Great Broughton, Cumbria

SusanRating, 5 stars1 month ago
The cottage is a wonderful place to stay when exploring the Western Lake District and coastline. It’s tucked away in a quiet corner and has a lovely enclosed garden perfect for your furry companion . The cottage itself is surprisingly spacious, comfortable and decorated cosily. Sue was the perfect host and checked in to make sure our elderly parents had the best stay. We shall return again soon !!

Sea Glass Cottage - Beachfront cottage

SueRating, 5 stars3 months ago
We absolutely loved our Christmas at Seaglass Cottage. The hosts were great, answered any questions, gave us detailed instructions for check-in and even put up a Christmas tree and decorations for us. We were very lucky with the weather, enjoying walks along the beach right outside, we even found some seaglass (we felt like children!). The property was very clean, the bedding smelled so fresh, the kitchen had everything you might need, very clean bathroom and handy downstairs loo. Every evening we would sit in the cosy conservatory enjoying a glass of wine, watching the sun go down, people walking along the beachpath with their dogs and then into the lounge for a real log fire. It was perfect and we can't wait to return!

Your guide to Grasmere

Welcome to Grasmere

Grasmere has all the ingredients of a quintessential Lake District village. A prime location on the shore of its own quiet lake (no motor boats here); a breathtaking backdrop of fells and mountains; a welter of pretty cottages, slate houses, and pubs — and of course a slew of connections to the Romantic poets. William Wordsworth himself lived here, and you can visit Dove Cottage, where he and his sister Dorothy both wrote; you can also see their tombstones in the graveyard of St Oswald’s. The 13th-century church, at the heart of the village on the river Rothay, sits alongside a beautiful flower garden, as well as the 400-year-old schoolhouse where William and Dorothy once taught — it’s now a bakery producing the village’s signature gingerbread. The lake, overlooked by Dollywaggon Pike and Fairfield Peak, offers stunning walking trails in every direction, and has been an inspiration to artists as well as poets.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Grasmere

The summer, when the temperatures are at their highest, is an understandably popular season in Grasmere. It’s when cottages are booked up, local attractions are at their liveliest, and when the Lake Artists Summer Exhibition is held, running from the end of July to September. August is the time to enjoy other traditions too — St Oswald’s Day, in the first week of August, sees the village’s Rushbearing festival, while the last weekend in August hosts its legendary Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show, a sports day that’s one of the oldest customs in the Lake District. Spring is when Wordsworth’s favourite daffodils bloom, and a particularly pretty time in the village, although autumn brings its own colourful charm, and both are marginally less busy times to visit. Even the winter is beautiful — but chilly!

Top things to do in Grasmere

Allan Bank

One of the three houses where Wordsworth lived during his 50 years in the area, this Georgian villa has wooded grounds that are home to a population of endangered red squirrels. There are deckchairs on the front lawn, an open fire in the library, and binoculars to help you spot the local wildlife.

Barney’s Newsbox

Maybe it’s the Zen-like calm of the surroundings that makes the Lake District such a hotspot for jigsaw puzzles. The two have gone together for a long time, and nowhere in England houses more than Barney’s. The store has 7,000 to choose from and more than 30,000 in stock.

Rydal

Less than an hour’s walk along the lake from Grasmere is Rydal Water, another small lake with its own little village, under the shadow of Loughrigg Fell. It’s a peaceful spot with Wordsworth’s most famous home, Rydal Mount, on its banks; he lived here from 1813 to 1850, and its attractive five-acre garden is still as he planted it.
