Holiday rentals with lake access in Northland

It is not 5 star accommodation but it did not say it was. It was clean and things worked. Great value for a group of friends travelling. 2 night stay sitting on the deck in the evening, the view of the falls and below was great. We ate at the manor a couple of minutes' walk away and enjoyed Karoke. Second night we made dinner. What was important to us? a) 8 of us can stay together b) keeping cost down c) clean. We will come back in again on the next trip in 2026.

We had a great time at Philip’s property, very clean, fully equipped kitchen, we had everything we needed, very peaceful with beautiful view of the lake. Highly recommend!

What a beautiful location! We loved the house, the yard, walking to the beach, hiking on the trails and experiencing all that nature had to offer. The staff were amazingly helpful and easy to get in touch with at all times. We could not of asked for a better way to spend our holidays! Will be back!!!!!!

James' and Lydia's home was perfect for a longer stay. The scenery alone was worth it. While there is no internet at the home I had great phone service and was able to reliably use my hotspot over the entire trip. You are a bit of a drive from Whangarei and beaches (usually 20-40 minutes), but the drives were beautiful and one of my favorite parts of my trip. The house itself is nice and open with a large kitchen for preparing mealy which was exactly what I was looking for. Both James and Lydia were excellent hosts and if I were to need anything they'd be there. I only wish it wasn't so far from Texas so I could come back soon!

Great little place. Communication with Sarah was easy so we had all the details we needed on time. The house suited us perfectly while in the area for the long weekend. Had everything we needed. Great views from the nice lawn. Fully fenced so we could bring our dog and she was safe with plenty of room in the garden. Short drive and you’re down at Glinks Gully on the beach! Would definitely stay here again

The place was perfect for our new years’ getaway with friends and family! The place is exactly like the photos and description! There is so much to do in the area and at the place! We love the putting green, the large out door area, the pool game and tv area and the large living space. We will definitely be back in the future!

Leslie was great and sent lots of extra photos to help us work out where our large group would sleep. The house is in a beautiful quiet spot on the estuary a short walk from Mangawhai tavern. Very peaceful

River Cottage was such a gem! The surroundings were like a jungle, the grounds were beautiful and there was fun activities like board games and kayaks. We were even able to borrow a fishing pole and caught a fish! I enjoyed walking around the farm property and river area. My favorite part was access to a lookout tower off the deck. I made my latte each morning and climbed up there to enjoy it while watching and listening to all the birds. Book this place, it's magical!

We are family of four and a senior dog and the cottage is truly beautiful. It is warm and has everything that you need for your stay. Well equipped kitchen, washing machine and dryer. The reviews did not lie when they said, the beds are comfortable- they really are. The location is great. Beaches are nearby, small townships are a short drive (20mins) or the local fish n chip shop is less than a 5 min walk- sells a great coffee. Teresa is a great host and responsive to questions. If you are not sure if you should book the cottage- don't be. The reviews on Matauri Shearers Cottage is spot on and I absolutely recommend this place, it had everything we needed.

Our time at the Shearer’s cottage was absolutely magical. My husband and I stayed with our three children for three nights. We were all utterly delighted when we walked in the door - lots of excited gasps from everyone - the surroundings are gorgeous, the property is thoughtfully appointed and spotlessly clean… far enough from the madding crowd to feel peaceful and secluded, yet still a very convenient drive to Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands. Ian and Anna were very friendly and communicative and made us feel totally welcome. Allow time to make the most of this beautiful place. The dawn chorus is glorious! Make sure you opt in for the spa by the river. We really hope we can visit again. Thank you so much Ian and Anna.

This venue holds so many special memories for us. Even with the not-so-great weather over the long weekend, it was still the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy time with our loved ones. Huge thanks to Christina and David for sharing such a beautiful place!
