Nestled in the beautiful Kilkenny countryside is Highbank Orchard. The singing of the birds and the peace and quiet make Rod and Julie’s farm a perfect escape to the country. I stayed with three girl pals for an evening of chatter by the fire. We had a fabulous time. The apartment was beautiful and well equipped. Lots of info for people staying longer so they can explore. We just wanted a girls night in and enjoyed it immensely. The beds were very comfortable and the little touches such as the shot of brandy on arrival was so generous. Top marks. I would imagine it’s also an ideal spot for a couple or family who plan on enjoying all Kilkenny has to offer but after a busy day sightseeing, it would be the right place to unwind and have a food night sleep. Nothing like waking up to the country air and hearing the birds chirping outside your window. Excellent value for money and plenty of space here with all modern amenities yet charm and old worldly feel to the site.

This was just what we wanted. Rural, very quiet, but close enough to the town of Kilkenny to make it convenient...about a 15 minute drive. You definitely need a car (and a GPS)! Beautiful countryside, with the woods literally right outside the front gate. A short path leads directly to hours' worth of hiking on well maintained trails. The house is nicely remodeled with modern conveniences, without losing its original charm. The fireplaces are definitely a bonus!! We didn't even need the one in the bedroom; the one in the living area was sufficient to keep the house cozy - with just a little boost from the electric heaters. Comfy bed, nice new shower, hot water. Kitchen could use a few more pots/pans (there is only one frying pan) but if you don't plan on cooking a lot it should suffice. We did fine with two people. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

The apartment was perfect for my quiet long stay of two months, with all important necessities (like washing machine/dryer, dishwasher, small garden area with a table and a small roofed place to put the bikes. The location was nice and quiet, but close enough to the highway that Kilkenny is in easy reach. A definite favorite of mine was the very close by mountain view market, which the lovely host Julie introduced me to. An extra plus for the location of the apartment :). There is a folder in the apartment made by Julie with lots of recommendations for food, adventure and sightseeing as well as instruction for the techinal stuff in the apartment if needed. That was super helpful especially in the beginning. Overall the host Julie and our AirBnB contact Holly were super nice and helpful. Would definitely come again when I am back in the area!
