Atiek & Andre represent the original idea of Airbnb, which is based on cultural exchange. They are both outstanding hosts and really looked after me. I felt welcomed like a friend. The traditional house is even more beautiful and spacious than you would expect from the pictures. It is truly a home and has a well equipped kitchen. I stayed in other places which were discribed as traditional, but this one was the best. It is very recommendable to have a car or scooter available. Alternatively you can also book a driver as mentioned in the listing. If you are planning to work and need WiFi, double check with the host before booking as it wasn't available during my stay. On the first day I used Atiek's hotspot and then got my own SIM card. Apart from the beautiful serene place and friendly hosts, I enjoyed learning about the community based tourism and sustainability activities.

I had a really great stay at Villa Sare. I spent 3 nights in Sare 5 (this listing) and 2 nights in Sare 3. First of all, the view from Sare 5 is unbeatable. It’s like looking at an ocean of paddy fields outside your window / from the patio. The villa is located in a village so the location is not so convenient if you’re looking to get around. However, it’s the perfect location if you just want to rest or have a digital detox, away from the hustle & bustle of the city. They also provide traditional Javanese breakfast, and there are some restaurants/cafes within walking distance. The only downside was the construction works next door during my stay, so there are noises from 8 to 5 from Mon-Sat. If you’re a light sleeper, you may also be wakened up by the calling of prayers from nearby mosques. Other than those hours, it’s extremely peaceful to hear the nature sounds and wind blowing. On a separate note, I also enjoyed my stay at Sare 3 which I found more homey and has softer bed.

Thank you Ibu Hendriati for the warm welcome and peaceful space to rest and contemplate! 10/10 would recommend for people who want to stay in Jogja away from the noise but still in close proximity to the city. Will be back for sure!
