Family-friendly holiday rentals in Bowness-on-Windermere

We booked the yurt last minute and were impressed with how well this was accomodated by the host. The campsite was very clean and peaceful, and we absolutely loved our stay. The hot tub made the weekend extra special and we really enjoyed being out in the countryside.

I booked this property to celebrate my fiancé’s 30th birthday with family. Everyone loved the house and everything that came with it. We struggled a little to find the property but Julie was helpful over the phone. Julie & her husband welcomed us and had kindly set up beers in an ice bucket for arrival which was a lovely start. All the rooms / living room / games room / kitchen all very clean and tidy. The kitchen had everything to cook easily & big fridge for all the food for everyone. Iron & iron board / hairdryer easily found. We had trouble lighting the fire on the outdoor table but they were quickly round and rectified it and got it going. We thought it was great that the wood / coal / fire starters were included as we did use the fire pit and BBQ multiple times. The games room was brilliant, the pool table and darts board was a hit! We had a great time at Canny Brow Barn. Everything you could possible think of or need for your stay, Ian and Anne-Marie had thought about, from a cocktail shaker to cleaning products to games. Would highly recommend!

The house was amazing. Beautifully converted barn with so much space. The hot tub was a great size in a beautiful courtyard. There was everything you would need in the kitchen. Very comfortable sofas with blankets provided for when the night becomes a little colder to sit round the wood burner. The bedrooms were immaculate with such comfy beds and fresh smelling clean bedding with towels, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner provided in cute hotel style bottles. Overall this was an amazing property which we were sad to leave. I would highly recommend a stay here. Such a calm relaxing place.

We had a lovely weekend at Moss Side Farm, we travelled with friends, small children and dogs. The contained garden was perfect for the dogs and the farm was lovely to take the children to see the animals. The accommodation is really homely and a good size. Louise is super friendly and helpful, and arranged an extra cot for us which we really appreciated! Would totally recommend this place for a quiet weekend away.

We had a great stay. The house was in a beautiful location, right on the estuary. Plenty of beach for walking. Beds were comfy and ample linen and towels were provided plus a great welcome hamper. The games room provided hours of entertainment and the hot tub was lovely for relaxing in after a busy day. The nearby rock park/quarry was a really interesting day out. We also enjoyed a meal out at the King William IV in Kirksanton. Jenny was a great host and was extremely welcoming and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Loved our stay at The Buttery. We were blessed with the weather but the location was outstanding. Surrounded by countryside, with an amazing view of the mountains and in a quiet part of the Lakes. Some great pubs within a 15min to half hour drive. Cozy with the log fire and nice patio for breakfast and dinner in the sun. Had everything we needed for a dog friendly, hiking, get away from it all break. Thank you Jella x

Great location and very peaceful. We thoroughly enjoyed the disconnect from the outside world, and to be able to tick off a Wainwright from the roundhouse was great. My wife loved the experience with Cumbrian Heavy Horses. We loved being able to support such an amazing place.

Brilliant accommodation for a short stay to provide great access to the hills around Wasdale. Lovely and quiet, very comfortable, all the facilities one needs, brilliant shower. We will be returning.

We had a lovely stay in a beautiful property with a well-maintained garden and a generously sized bedroom. The surrounding area is picturesque and peaceful. The only minor drawback was the occasional noise from passing trains, which may be noticeable to light sleepers. Ann was incredibly accommodating, especially with our special request for bedding arrangements, and it was a thoughtful touch to find milk in the fridge upon arrival.

We spent three wonderful nights. The room was very cozy. Thanks to the owner for providing eggs and milk. When we arrived, the house was full of flowers. Every morning when we opened the curtains and saw this scene, our mood would be better. You can light a fire outside the cottage, which made our evening activities more colorful. I would like to come here for vacation next time.

Stuart and Lynda gave us very clear instructions to get to the place and it is one of the most beautiful stays we have been in. The drive is amazing and the walks from the backyard are great as well. It is easy to get to if you drive and is 30-40 mins away from most famous Lake District hikes. Definitely would recommend

Really homely cottage, with everything we needed for our stay. It is ready to walk into Ambleside where there are restaurants and a small Tesco, and also you can access the Windermere Ferry. Having a dedicated parking space made life so much easier than when there is only limited on-street parking.

We had a wonderful 3-night stay at this lovely cozy cottage. It was clean, well maintained, and felt just like home from the moment we arrived. The place is equipped with everything you could possibly need, and the peaceful, scenic surroundings made it even more special! Sean and Jane were very helpful and responsive, making the whole experience smooth and welcoming. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway!

We spent 5 nights here at the end of March and start of April 2025. We were really fortunate with the weather and took full advantage of the wonderful location: scaling Slight Side and Scafell on one day, riding to Coniston via the bridleway on another and 'bagging' most of the Coniston fells on another day via Wrynose Pass. We ate in on a couple of nights and also went to the Wainwright's for some pub grub, as well as Stoves for their evening menu. Simon and Belinda's place is very well situated in Great Langdale for all kinds of walks and rides, food and decent pints. The house itself is a lovely place to return to in the evening with easy parking outside for our van and once inside, everything is spotless, well equipped and cosy. We really appreciated all the helpful information on bike routes and walking routes and spent the late evenings by the fire pouring over the Wainwright books planning the next day's adventures. 100% recommended.

Great lodge situated right at the top of the site, within 2 minutes of a small walk with panoramic views of the valleys. Bedding was super soft & so were the towels, comfy bed, great sleep. Beautiful surroundings to wake up to and sit outdoors with a coffee listening to the birds. Dog friendly! Comfortable sofa! Lots of utensils and plates.

Beautiful little cabin surrounded by stunning scenery, with many great places to visit within a short driving distance. The cabin had everything we needed for our stay. Andy provided lots of useful information and tips regarding the local area. We'll definitely be coming back again!

Our group of 7 adults and 3 kids really enjoyed our stay. The place was cozy, comfortable and had everything we needed. It provided the perfect getaway and we will definitely be back.

We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful cottage in Elterwater — the perfect base for exploring the Lake District. Four of us (two couples) and our dog had plenty of space to relax. The cottage was spotless, with comfortable beds, high-quality linen and towels, and excellent appliances throughout. The location is unbeatable, nestled right in the heart of the valley with stunning 360-degree views and direct access to countless walking routes into the surrounding mountains. There’s a great local pub just a short stroll away and an outstanding nearby restaurant focusing on small plates and local produce — a real highlight. Although the cottage has one designated parking spot, there’s plenty of additional parking within two minutes’ walk, which made things very easy. Alun is a fantastic host — warm, reliable, and always helpful. We’ve stayed in a few of his properties now, and they never disappoint. We’d definitely seek out one of his places again next time we’re in the Lakes.

what a great air b&b . clean and tidy . we had an issue which was our right within hours. everything was explained in the texts we sent and received . can't rave to much about van, sie ,area and host. what a sea view.
